Probodobodyne-E.E.G. Deep Space Exploration Catalog

Recommended Posts

Probodobodyne and the Experimental Engineering Group present: The Deep Space Exploration Catalog; putting the 'Mental' in 'Experimental' since. . . Approximately five seconds ago!

Interplanetary Exploration Series:

IEV-9 "Insight II":

Probodobodyne's latest interplanetary exploration vehicle. The Insight II is practically a mobile space station, capable of hauling freight, fuel, and small crafts to the edge of the Kerbol system.

IEV-8 Enterprise:
A smaller IEV for less demanding missions.

Orbital Utility Series:
OUV-0 Dionysus:
The Experimental Engineering Group's largest refueling craft. The Dionysus contains two Drones; one to transport fuel from the Rocket to the target craft, and a second, which attaches to crafts without docking ports, so the first can dock to them. Entirely reusable, except for the Fairings. The Dionysus was originally designed as a booster for the Erebus, but was converted to it's current role after the Erebus was upgraded to an SSTO.

OUV-1 Scoot:
The humble Scoot can be used as a rudimentary lander, an escape pod, a crew shuttle, or a tug for small cargoes. It doesn't do anything particularly well, but it's versatility makes it a good addition to any interplanetary expedition.

Landers:
Hamster:
Probodobodyne's first dedicated lander. The 'Hamster' is as capable as it is adorable; it has enough Delta V and Thrust to land on just about any Moon, though getting back to space from Tylo would require a refueling on the surface. It's small size makes it ideal for docking to IEVs, though to do so you will need to retract the antennas (Action group 1 ).
Thruster: 1 LV-T45 'Swivel'
Note: Mechjeb seems to have issues measuring it's Delta V. It says the craft has ~400, while in practice it has more than 2,000.

Dropship series:
The Experimental Engineering Group's Dropships are most notable for their inclusion of engines for both horizontal and VTOl flight. Though primarily designed for use on Duna, they should also do well on just about any world with similar or lower gravity.
Erebus:
The latest, largest, and, by far, the most capable Dropship to come from the Experimental Engineering Group. The Erebus is, for now, the Experimental Engineering Group's only Dropship capable of reaching orbit as an SSTO
Horizontal Flight Engines: 6 Vectors
Vertical Flight Engines: 5 Vectors

Firebird:
The first of the Experimental Engineering Group's Dropships. The Firebird is designed to carry cargo to and from the surface of Duna, but lacks the Delta V to go much further. Might soon be updated to be much more useful.
Horizontal Flight Engines: 2 Thuds
Vertical Flight Engines: 2 Terriers, and 2 Thuds

Coming soon: A Mining Dropship, and a small, but capable Lander.

Absolutely crazy dropships, and interplanetary transporters that look even better. Good job.

Thanks :D

Also, thread has been updated with a new ship; the Hamster. Might also make a variant on the Hamster's lifter soon, refined for cheaply carrying small cargoes to orbit (Falcon-9 style recovery to reduce costs). The Mining Dropship will take a while, since it's much more complex.

Doesn't seem like a perfectly circular cross-section, but you just blew my mind when you used the Mk-2 tanks in such a way.

:D One of many good tips to come from the Open Source Aesthetics Thread, I think. It's not perfectly circular with 3x symmetry, but I think it is with 4x.

The reusable lifter just made it's first successful flight. It's surprisingly powerful, especially the second stage, which can do the entire circularization burn by itself and still have a good bit of fuel left over. Having issues getting the rocket stable, though. It always seems to want to flip.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
