I can't figure out why the "materials" folder is not appearing when i import my assets.

Did you create a material and assign the textures to your model or just un-wrap and texture? My guess is that you didn't create a material and assign the textures. Which really isn't a huge issue. Just put your textures into the asset folder, create a material, and drop onto your part.

I'm following a tutorial by Beale, and in his tutorial he puts the OBJ files and the texture into the assets folder. Then a materials folder appeared. I contacted him, and he doesn't know why it's not appearing or me.

Hi as the guys have said there not being a materials folder is no real big deal, as you materials are indeed there.  As to the why of not appearing, are you exporting your parts directly from blender or wherever, choosing 'export as' and making the write location your unity project ? In this case i'd expect the material folder to appear every time. But if you are exporting to another folder , and then dragging your parts into the unity project, it's not unusual for the materials folder to not appear
