Hello, and this is my first post here! I hope this is not too much of a noob question, but is there anything like a VOR to help landing an aircraft, SSTO, or shuttle? If there is then I missed it, if there isn't then what else can I use to help make landing a bit easier? Is that too many questions?

Any and all advice will be gratefully accepted. It is needed. Thanks you in advance, but I must attend to my clockwork band.

You mean you find it hard to precisely land on the runway? You can set a flag at the start of the runway and set it as the target while landing an aircraft. Or if you are lazy you can use mechjeb's spaceplane assist to autoland.

You can also use KerbNet to set a waypoint or two at the runway. Some players find it easier to have two flags or waypoints -- one at each end of the runway. This can help you get aligned. Alternately, you can put a flag or waypoint at the equator, some distance to the west of KSC. Make sure you fly right over it, and then fly due east from there.

Pretty sure something similar is part of Kerbinside or some other mod like that.

Dr. Phibes,

The answer to your question is "no", sadly. There is no precision navigation system to bring you back to KSC. At least... not in stock, although I have seen VOR implemented in mods.

The way we do it in stock is by VFR and checkpoints. Retroburn at the southern rim of the crater, defined altitude/ speeds at coastlines, mountains/ etc. It gets easier with practice, but it's all manual.

I tried making PAPI lights and a meatball in stock. They worked as advertised, but the visual range was too short and they lagged pretty badly due to the processing requirements of raycasting. I found that it was actually easier to eyeball the approach. Perhaps a crude ILS system would work and not put so much strain on the processor...

Best,

Lining up with the runway is something I'm just now thinking about starting to maybe get the hang of.

Since it have a permissive license, might eventualy be revived.

But I'd use a different mod:
