But he spends the better part of his time in the hospital. When he gets home, the customs officials do not ask him to show his passport. Why not? If they were killed during the sinking, they wouldn't have survived it. Or I'm working with a wrong definition here and "survivor" has an additional, completely different meaning I don't know of.
