Quick guide to posting pictures on the forum.

Gonna make this short and sweet.  I see the question a lot, and explained a lot, but never a tutorial linked.

How to quickly post an image on the forums, using Imgur and CubeUpload.  (I know there are more, but Imgur is the most popular, and CubeUpload is what I use).  Any other service should be pretty similar.

Neither of these services requires an account, but it's definitely helpful if you ever need to access the links again.

Edit: CubeUpload currently requires registration due to an insane abuse of the guest upload system.

Step 1: Upload your image(s).

Imgur

There's a green "New Post" button the top.  Click it, and the upload dialogue will appear.

ImgMain.png

Click on "Browse", and select your picture.

ImgPick.png

Click "Open", and it will bring you here:

ImgCopy.png

Hover over the image, and click on "Copy".  This will copy the image's direct link to your clipboard.  The other copy button will give you the link to the image on Imgur.  This is not what you want.

CubeUpload

Click on "Select Images".

CubeMain.png

Pick your image:

CubePick.png

Click on "Open".  This will then take you to the preview page.  You can select multiple images before clicking on open if you need to upload more than one.  Click on the "Start Upload" button.

CubeUpload.png

It will upload your images one by one, and then display your options.

CubeLoaded.png

Click on the top line below the image, right click, and select "Copy".  This will copy the image's direct link to your clipboard.

CubeCopy.png

Step 2: Paste your image(s).

Go to your post, and simply paste in what you've copied.

PostPaste.png

The link will display briefly, then the image will appear.

PostDisplay.png

If you double click on your image, you can edit its properties.  Really handy for downsizing a bunch of images consistently.

And that's it!

I posted examples for Imgur and CubeUpload, which is what I use.  There are plenty of image hosting sites, the process will be similar.  You can even use FB if you'd like. - This is my banner photo on FB.

Edit: FB works, but it appears their direct image URLs change over time, so it won't be permanent.

Recently discovered that you can literally just drag your pictures into the post editor.

This may be dependent on browser support.  This is not the image host or forum doing it, it's your browser.

Just click and hold, hover over the tab with the forum, then release it in the edit box.  (You must have clicked in the editor to open it before you drag.)

For Imgur, I thought you had to upload the image to an Album before you could share it? Or, is it that if you just upload and not into an album the image goes into the public gallery? Also, in the album, when you open an image a whole array of options opens up for different kinds of embedding. I usually pick the Direct Link option, which puts a full size image into the post (or at least makes it available to the viewer as full size if they click on it).

I'm confused here. :/

I haven't used any albums, and I don't even have an imgur account.  So putting in an album shouldn't matter.  I think the album links just show up so often because people are used to putting everything into an album, then sharing the album, and albums are now broken.

AFAIK, once it's uploaded, no matter how, it should be sharable by direct link.

MalwareBytes does not like CubeUpload, FYI.

When you upload an image to imgur, it creates an "album" automatically. With one image, it's just a bandwidth-hogging wrapper, but if you upload multiple images at once, or use the "add another image" button, it adds that to the album.

This is what it looks like if we...

Copy and paste what is already in the address bar right after upload:

https://imgur.com/a/WCnc3uk

Copy everything after /a/ in the URL, then post it into the imgur button in the editor (IIRC this is broken):

Album WCnc3uk will appear when post is submitted

RMB > open link (or image, or copy image address) in new tab > copy url > paste in editor:

jVziRV1.png

RMB > copy image > paste in editor:

jVziRV1.png

(Note that with the above, there appears to be no difference whether or not you zoom in)

Get share links > embed in HTML > paste in editor:

<blockquote class="imgur-embed-pub" lang="en" data-id="jVziRV1"><a href="//imgur.com/jVziRV1">View post on imgur.com</a></blockquote><script async src="//s.imgur.com/min/embed.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Get share links > BBCode > paste in editor:

jVziRV1.png

Get share links > Markdown > paste in editor:

[Imgur](https://i.imgur.com/jVziRV1.png)

In the forums editor: Insert other media > insert image from url > paste a direct link to the image (ending in .jpg, .png, etc):

jVziRV1.png

Selecting the image from the thumbnail view on you account (YourAccountName > images) you can also directly copy the direct link. And you can copy resized versions of the image. You can also do this by appending a letter to the image id (numbers and letters before .png) i.e.

https://i.imgur.com/jVziRV1.png is original

https://i.imgur.com/jVziRV1s.png is small and square

https://i.imgur.com/jVziRV1b.png is bigger and square

https://i.imgur.com/jVziRV1t.png is a small thumbnail

https://i.imgur.com/jVziRV1m.png is a medium thumbnail

https://i.imgur.com/jVziRV1l.png is a large thumbnail

https://i.imgur.com/jVziRV1h.png is huge thumbnail

You can also resize by edit on imgur, but I prefer to use the forum's resize tools instead if I need to.

In short, it matters very little which of imgur's many layers of sharing systems (and at least two redesigns) you use.
