I can't target anything

Hi, I'm a newbie to KSP, so sorry if this question seems dumb.

 

When I was using the demo version of the game, I was able to set objects (such as the Mun) as targets and get maneuvering tips. 

But I just started using the full paid version & I can't select anything as a target now. Left-click used to do it. Now NOTHING!

Also, I was able to set maneuver nodes in the demo version & now I can't do that either. 

Are these functions disabled to make it more of a challenge or am I doing something wrong?

Hi Jeff, Welcome to the Forum,

If you just started a career save you probably have to update your tracking station and mission control before being able to set up maneuver nodes and targets.

I'm certain that maneuver node planning requires a Tracking Station and Mission Control buildings upgrades, but I'm also certain you can target objects with any onboard pilot's rank at 3 or higher (provided that kerbal is in a control seat or command pod,) or simply by using the appropriate probe core. Targeting objects is not course-plotting, therefore is not always relevant to maneuvers. 

I recommend starting a fresh career game with this in mind, as it could dramatically change how you spend those precious few kerbal bucks you get when you first set out. Take it slow and scrutinize your available options for maximum preferred gains. Milking science data and ore mining exploits can become quite lengthy, or repetitive and boring. No Musk-y puns intended.

No, you've done nothing at all wrong so far except thinking this was a dumb question.
