Strange text replacing "mun" on the forum

Recommended Posts

Occasionally I will come across the word "mun" being replaced by "Mün" or something like that. It only seems to occur on this forum. I haven't seen anyone else talking about it anywhere else on the forum, so I thought it might be something that I alone am seeing. It's not very important, but I was just wondering what's going on. I'm not sure if I need to elaborate on anything, so just ask and I'll respond.

Sorry if this is stupid lol

Probably Mün plus some UTF-8 encoding artifacts.

Huh, that’s weird. It also seems to happen on older posts, like from 2012-2015.

Yeah, I think it was a consequence of one of the forum upgrades.

Yes, if those are old posts, then it's the umlaut getting messed up by forum software transitions.

Unicode is a character set, not a feature.  Sometimes it gets mistranslated when data's copied around, and a few places filter out the most strange characters on purpose.  Otherwise it ought to "Just Work" inside a browser.
