I think I remember this from somewhere...

I think it was some guy who landed a probe on Duna or something.

Did that guy use this mod? Or did you get your inspiration from that guy?

Yes, that guy used this mod.  I can say that with confidence, because that guy was me.  :sticktongue:

(So I suppose one could say that, technically speaking, I did indeed get my inspiration from "that guy"...)

I have this insane urge to attempt a Caveman Challenge in the Snarkiverse! :D

I've completed this. Even recorded 3 10-minute episodes of my travails though they need voiceover so who knows when that'll happen.

I gotta say: It was great fun. Getting to Dres with an 18-ton ship without patched conics or comms was... interesting.

Noyce! Me want comp patches for Kerbol Origins by @amarius1 \/ see below \/

Harvest: nothing happens.

Rega: moved to be between Kerbin and Duna

Sarvin: moved to sarnus’ L5 point

Daphy: nuffin.

Potatus: moved to a funky elliptical 50 degree inclination orbit

Fonso: moved to where Potatus was

Shayle: nuffin

Keelon: moved to Urlum’s L5 point

Manai: moved to where Moho was

Lok: moved to orbit Manai

Revus: nuffin

Corolet: moved to keelon orbit really close

Hold my father's whiskey as I can't drink such alcohols.

Hyperedit, (+some configs) TO THE RESCUE

I'm really looking forward to seeing those! I haven't had time the last week to even fire KSP up, so thanks for providing some motivation!

Hm, interesting idea!

Have never played with Kerbol Origins myself, so tinkering with it to make it Snarkiverse-compatible isn't really on my radar right now.  For me to Add a Kerbol Origins compatibility patch, I'd want to try it out first and do at least a reasonable chunk of a career play-through with it, to get a feel for what it's like and see what sort of inspiration strikes me.  ;)  So, not something I'll be producing... for now.

However:

  • I do like playing KSP with fresh stuff I haven't tried before, so doing a Kerbol Origins play-through sounds as though it could be fun.  So I'm fairly open to this idea.  :)  Just... be aware that this would likely be a while before I might get around to this.  I'm fairly busy IRL and my KSP play time isn't infinite (much though I might wish otherwise).  Perhaps I'll do Kerbol Origins for my next career, then we'll see (no promises).
  • If someone doesn't want to wait for that, there's nothing stopping anyone from publishing their own Snarkiverse / Kerbol Origins patch to do whatever they like.  Both mods have fairly wide-open licenses (MIT).  So if you've taken the trouble to make one already... perhaps publish it as your own mod!  :)

What is the for this?

Have never bothered to calculate a dV map, since I never use them myself.  dV numbers will be higher going to Moho, but other than that will generally be lower than for the stock system, since this mod makes things smaller and closer together, in general.

Some discussion of dV for this mod here:

Thanks @Snark for this! I just started a new career and I am loving it.  Really adds a lot of replay value just using the stock planets. The new views from the Mun are simply incredible.

By the way, for those who may be interested, it works perfectly fine with 1.3.1 and is compatible with Strategia without any additional configuration.

This looks very well-thought out and exciting. :D

I really want to see what I can do with Pol!

Do you happen to know which of these moons are tidally locked? It's one of those attributes that really brings out the whole "looming" thing for me.

Neither, because a planet/moon’s spin rate in KSP is always constant, so Duna would just wobble around in the sky.

I dug into the config files:

Pol:

%tidallyLocked = true

Bop:

%tidallyLocked = false
%rotationPeriod = 6420

Per the other configs, Minmus is tidally locked to Dres. They'll have a bit of libration due to the eccentricity and inclination.

Laythe and Tylo are unchanged, so they remain tidally locked.

^ Indeed.  ;)

In fact, there's a lot of libration, much more than you'll see for any tidally-locked bodies in the stock system, due to the eccentricity of the orbits.  Pol, in particular, puts on quite a show:  if you land in the right place on Pol, Duna does a seriously funky dance over the course of each Dunatian day (i.e. over each Pol orbit).  I'm not gonna describe it here in detail, 'coz I don't want to spoil it for folks.  I remember the first time I experienced it, without knowing what to expect, it made quite an impression on me, and far be it from me to take that experience away from anyone.  :)  Suffice to say that I think you'll find it's worth it.
