How do I use the MK 1-3 module?

I just unlocked this but when I use it nothing will go under it. I can use the MK1 module above it and everything will go under that configuration. But how do I use the MK1-3 alone without the MK1?

It has a node under it just like any capsule.  Are you sure its really not there?

Steam version? I'd give a quick validation of game files if youre truly not seeing a node under it.

Along with the above questions -- are you using any mods?

Make a new ship, and use your Mark 1-3 pod as the first part. Alternatively, press Re-Root, click on the Mark 1 pod, and then click on the Mark 1-3 pod.
