I just read. Very sad. Agree with his opinions or not, what he went through, and recovered from, is amazing. I'm on disability for breaking my back... but I can still walk... more or less. What happened to him was 1000 times worse... and I'm truly blown away that he went on to complete med school after he got out of the hospital!!! 

That is really, really remarkable!!! 

RIP, sir. :(
