KSP won't Load! Can anyone help?

Recommended Posts

So KSP won't load past the 75-80% mark.  Its not freezing, but it will sit for hours just looking pretty.  I have:
1. Uninstalled and Reinstalled (cleanly, both with the uninstall feature in steam and on my remove programs option on windows)
2. removed all mods

3. Verified and reacquired all files mulitple times (every time it runs, somehow 420 files need to be reacquired.  I validate, fix this issue, run again, and same issues reemerge)

4. Verified my language is english

5. Run the program manually as 64 bit from the .exe file

6. beat my head against the wall

7. cried real tears into my beer

linked is a screenshot of where it stops loading, unfrozen but no more progress after 3 hours of "patiently" waiting:

Well, since you seem to have tried all the boiler plate things, we're gonna need your log files:

And now that your pic has finally loaded for me, we're really gonna need those logs files.  Something's really wonky if you're getting that on your load screen.

Your 'Squad' folder is missing some files like the whole localization folder for the stock game and pretty sure some others as well. Also, you got a 'firespitter' folder inside your 'Squad' folder which does NOT belong there, especially after a reinstall. Best solution would be a reinstall ;)

Yes, I know...you already reinstalled the game, but have you checked for remaining files after uninstalling the game? Usually some files are kept like the save folder, settings files and files which are not part of the original game (aka mod files). So please try it again, following these steps:

1) Create a backup of your savegame and put it somewhere outside of the KSP install folder.
2) Uninstall the game through steam
3) Open the folder where KSP was installed (your log says it is 'H:\Backup\nope\Backup\My Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\')
4) Be sure that you have created a backup of your savegame!
5) Check for a 'Kerbal Space Program' folder. If it is still there, delete it.
6) Install the game again through steam.

Oh and be sure that the KSP_64.exe file you try to run actually belongs to the fresh installed game. I wouldn't be surprise if you got confused by your own file structure. Don't get me wrong, this is not meant to be rude but 'Backup/nope/Backup' is not the best structure to use ;)

haha yea its from when i was a college kid.  Ive litterally have had the same backup system in place for decades, just moving from hard drive to hard drive.  I've done EXACTLY step by step what you are saying, but I will give it another try.  Every time I uninstall and reinstall through steam I have the same issues (I do not add mods, no idea how firespitter keeps showing up every. single. time.)  Also after i verify file intergrity.  I described all this in my first post, but probably not as clearly as I could have.

That's really strange...Steam cannot put firespitter into your Squad folder, so someone or something else must have done it. Do you use any tools or scripts to manage your mods or to do any KSP related stuff? Like CKAN, Mod Admin or something you wrote on your own?
Do you use anything to protect your backup folder like an override protection?
You can actually try to use a different install directory or even a different hard drive, maybe it helps somehow...

I used to use Twitch to help manage mods I would use, but I've since uninstalled all mods over twitch.  I have none.  I can try installing it elsewhere.  I haven't written any scripts, no.  Mod Manager used to be a thing I used to use also, but like i said i don't mod anymore

Ok....

Any antivirus software installed which somehow overreacts and blocks some files during installation?

Do you mind uploading a fresh log? I'm just curious if the issue is still the same.

I guess, I'm pinging @Gargamel as well since he was interested in this topic as well and maybe I'm missing something obvious :)

If the file structure is Fubar.... well.... Then then file structure is the problem...

I can't open the log, as the server isn't found for me.

But I'd start by just deleting everything.   Everything.

Download a fresh copy of KSP, install it, and run it stock.   Don't do anything till that runs.

Then don't do mods the way you were doing mods.  Use CKAN, or install them manually.   Place each folder from a mod in the correct location.

ok so the way my files are named is the issue?  I reinstalled in a brand new clean steam library location thats not as jerky-aroundy.  Still not workin.  All old things were completely obliterated.  Everything new is stock.  There are NO MODS.  zero zilch nada.

I found this on the log:

(Filename: C:/buildslave/unity/build/artifacts/generated/common/runtime/DebugBindings.gen.cpp Line: 51)

PartLoader: Compiling Internal Prop 'Squad/Firespitter/Props/FSGearSwitch/prop/FSGearSwitch'

Firespitter definitivelly is not part of the stock parts. :)

Dude, delete everything. Every file. Check if you don't have an automatic backup/restore utility (OneDrive?), and delete the data from the backup too.

@theneenyo although it is posted that the output log is needed providing the KSP.log would also be helpful ... you can find it in the same directory as your ksp x64.exe deal

For debugging and quick finding of issues it is generally easierto look at the KSP.log

One thing to note is if you are using the launcher then dont ... thing has been broken since before 0.90 beta than ever (3 years now?) .... use the ksp executable, not the launcher if you were doing so

Regardless, KSP.log would be handy ... same thing happens to it as the output, it is overwritten each time the game starts ... this log is the BD Armory teams goto to get an idea of what is up and generally the output log is only useful if there is a crash in my experience

Well, the odd thing is: There is still firespitter in your GameData folder and still no localization folder for the stock game (the one for the expansion is there)

Whatever happens on your PC, something is corrupting the install process. Can be the crappy twitch launcher, antivirus software or hardware related to your harddrive. My best guess is the twitch launcher, I cannot think of any other explanation how the firespitter mod ends in your Squad folder. If possible, unlink everythink between twitch and KSP or even better: uninstall the twitch launcher.

Uninstalling Twitch Launcher now.  Then gonna uninstall the game and reinstall the game.

I delete everything every time.  heck ive even used fancy 3rd party uninstall and remove from existance tools for a couple of these removals.  I have a onedrive, but i rarely use it.   Ive been using it for log data and a resume, but not games.
