Actually BASE is an acronym...  Buildings, Antennas, Spans, and Earth

So, I guess base jumping could be jumping off of a base?  Kerbals do seem to enjoy play-on-words humor.   Speaking of humor, it just dawned on me why they used the word "Spans" instead of "Bridges" in that acronym.  LOL!

I think Bob thought, "hmm, BASE=Big Airplane Sounds Exciting," and got ideas... In his keeness to jump, however, you will notice he knocked his co-pilot out of his seat. His chute did not open, but Kerbals do seem to survive long falls...
