And that works ?

Cool if it does. &)

It works if the save file only has parts available in the old version you want to use (including any mods). There's a block of metadata at the top that includes the game version, and some other things that are version dependent. Save a copy of the file before you go messing around in there.

I think your post was meant for Dundun93.

I own the original savegame since I'm the one hosting this derby... ^_^

I don't need to mess with that.

Ummm why did you make it a read-only file?

I got everything in my install, but there are no flags or vessels. @Triop can you give me another copy. that one doesn't have anything in it.

I'll look into it, maybe I can get you the code for the flags.

I do have the coordinates if you like:

Anybody else have problems ?

Or can someone help ?

Never got a chance to do the Dakar, I'll have to look into this one. For clarification, is the flight time part of the final time, or a bonus? And on that note, question about mods - is it all or nothing, or could, say, the transport flier be modded, but the car be stock?

@dundun93 Just to be sure, have you checked the flag in the map menu ?

I've checked the file by letting somebody else download it to his computer, totally accessable.

Keep me posted, trying to help. ^_^

You can still do the Dakar, nobody won, it is all just for the experience.

Some interesting dunes in Kerbal Dakar, just as in this derby.

You can choose to :

- just drive the Derby and share your experience or awesome vehicles.

- Enter only your driving time

- Go full force and go hardcore timing everything.

- use any mod you like, just keep your wheels on the ground (no flying/hoovering) during the race.

As for flying your car to the start, you may even launch a rocket as long as your car starts close to the starting flag.

Have fun.

~repost~

So I've tested the full Derby to prove it can be done.

- I did a timed flight using screenshots for timing.

fDlKjO8.png

- I unloaded my car and drove to the flag.

- waited for the mission time to get a round number (in this case it was 03:00), pressed F1 for screenshot and started.

KAoo1za.png

- Drove to the flag and did a full stop followed by a screenshot for timing.

nR0KG8b.png

The flight was 16:29 and the drive was 21:28 (24:28 minus 3:00).

Counting them together gives me a complete time of 38:07.

Scoreboard will look something like this:

Score:

- Flight 16:29

- Drive 21:38 (24:38 minus 03:00 (see starting time))

- Total 38:07

Tip:

Don't go building cars going faster then 30 m/s, you will only crash and gain no time.

So you think summer is over ?

If you lived where I live you would know that summer isn't nearly over. ;) Nice challenge! I think I may actually participate if I can find the right time.

Desided to upgrade the "tracked" "Storm" a little and see if i can make it...

Here's the result.

Spoiler

QdLJd6n.png

Starting time 3 minutes.

Br69f8B.png

It's quite scary going down hills, but this thing can definetly do it.

GJHDzNS.png

And here we are. Stopping time 17 minutes and 19 seconds.

Total time: 14 minutes and 20 seconds.

The new version has improved suspension that actually works and makes the wheels pretty much indestructible, there's also improvements in the bodywork and a SHRIMEK and air-brakes. Oh, and there's also an anti-roll mechanism powered by 3 SAS-modules.

Now it's a difficult choice of weather i should use the "Storm" or the more Dakar style truck for the drive.

Who would have thought the thing I'd spend more time on for a driving challenge is aero? The parts where the car is on the ground are actually the easy ones...

Anyway, I am making good progress! I (hopefully) have a fixed design and it's just tweaking from now on... also learning how to drive... and how to not roll it. I'm using a full-stock buggy-styled vehicle (name suggestions welcome) powered by a single Juno, plenty of speed for a bumpy course; a pic of it flying somewhere in the hills behind the KSC:

sx4gLEc.png

Top speed is 43-ish m/s and I intend to use all of these speeds in the desert, so suspension, ground clearance and stability have to be on point.

My worst fear is still seeing it slowly sink into the ground before inevitably exploding... Nothing worse than losing 20 minutes of driving to that.

Boost Flap Kracken Tech allowed?

Yes, BFKT is allowed.

(I have no idea what that is, but okay...)

All mods are allowed btw.

I believe the boost-flap is something that Azimech used, and is basically a flap that when deployed, will cover up a jet-engine and vise-versa, halting it's thrust while still keeping it spooled up, allowing for better control of engine-power...or so i remember.

EDIT: seems i was correct.
