It looks like someone bolted wings on a camper van with a jet engine strapped to the roof. Then it didn't have enough lift so they added more wings.

I think they’d get less drag by throwing a parachute out the back

They couldn't, because it was spreading the chemicals with the jet exhaust assistance.

FMA IS 36 Condor.

An 1950's airliner project with 5 engines.. inside the tail.

:)

Never passed the mockup stage, however. What may be a good thing after all, as having 5 jet engines confined in a small space appears to be less than a good idea...

POST EDIT

MOAR INFO.

Unsurprisingly, as the IA 36 was designed by a german guy from Focke-Wulf engineer, Kurt Tank!

sadly this one wasn't a Focke-Wulf design, this one was a Messerschmidt one

also, hehehe, the ''Triebflügel'' from Focke-Wulf

He worked for Messerschmidt, but later on the 60s! :)

These guys at that time knew each other (there were not too much aircraft designers around). The designs are too similar to be just a coincidence, IMHO - there must be some project from someone else on the war in which both guys (from FW and from ME) must had know about.

Or not - sometimes, some ideas just happens more than once at the same time...

P.S.
Pay attention, it must be maroon, not blue. The blue one is fake, non-space Matra.

I'm guessing we have klimbim to thank for that little alternative fact.

Now they have jetpacks.

Next step - rocketjump.
Waiting for video.

I don't now what the guy that designed this was drinking, but I want some.

Probably he owned a British*) sidecar motorcycle and wanted to join a street race.

*) because the sidecar is on the left

there has been several "moar booster" style designs, such as the UR-700

the "otrag" clustered monstrosity contraption

one of the most "kerbal" designs is definitely the sea dragon. i mean, what on earth are the engineers trying to launch with this thing? an astroid or artificial moon???

and this one just is an aircraft designer's nightmare.

Well, that's why they didn't launch it on dry land.
