A new dwarf planet: 2013 FY27

The Trans-Neptunian Object (TNO) 2013 FY27 has just been re-sized as a dwarf planet using data from Hubble, ALMA, and the Magellan telescope. Its diameter has been measured to be about 740-760 km, around half the size of Makemake, and its albedo was found to be quite low, around 0.15-0.17. It also has its own moon with a diameter of about 190 km, around a quarter the size of its parent object and indicating it formed through a giant impact event.

Aren't most KBOs around the size of half the size of Makemake?

Most large ones, yes. Or at least around that size. 500-1000 km objects are pretty common and almost certainly dwarf planets, although they’re drastically outnumbered by the tiny KBOs like Ultima Thule.
