Is there a mod that adds asteroid collision?

The title, it doesn't make sense when they disappear when they crash into Kerbin.

You cannot alter anything on any planet, other than landed vessels which you put there and the buildings of the KSC which can be destroyed and rebuilt.

This - at least so far - transcends mods. No mod allows deformation of terrain or changing (or even adding) weather or climate. Neither do any add waves, which would be a big part of an asteroid impact.

It's far too much work for far too little payoff, considering any interesting asteroid/planet interaction would probably end your game if it was Kerbin and not make much of a difference in gameplay if it was elsewhere.

The progress on Update 1.5 is on track, and, naturally, this week wasn’t without its developments. The team is currently working on some cool features regarding one of our favorite Celestial Bodies: Asteroids! As you know, before the Making History Expansion, it was very hard to get an asteroid within the atmosphere of other Celestial Bodies, at least without mods or some sort of cheats. When Asteroids were originally introduced into the game, only space interactions were in mind, but that changed with the expansion as now players can easily spawn asteroids on collision routes with other Celestial Bodies. In light of this, we have been working on ensuring that asteroids behave properly whenever they enter the atmosphere of a Celestial Body, similar to a spacecraft.
