5 kerbal and 320 science need rescue around Kerbin

Recommended Posts

OKay I have a science mission returned from Minimus..

I have a sci lab that got 320 science...but cant seem to transmit it (power 560 isnt enough and it keeps aborting) (mark 1 solar panels)

5 kerbals : Pilot, 2 tourists , 2 scientists

I can do reentry but not enough chutes (i only get to 10m/s) to save the lab, which eats it on landing.

So can I eventually rescue all? is it possible? They are all happy enough in orbit around kerbin.

Im looking at leaving them in orbit and doing a rescue mission later...send up a rocket with a storage container or two and have the scientists EVA the science over to the rocket.

Will that work? I know I can save all the kerbals...but the 320 science is my problem.

Welcome to the forums.

Yes, there are an infinite number of ways to rescue everything. That's part of the fun of the game -- you can even be inventive in the midst of a disaster.

Saving the kerbals will be easy, as you said. Just rendezvous with a ship that can reenter and can hold them all.

To save the science lab, you need a klaw. You can use it to attach any of the things the lab needs. Probably more solar panels, & more batteries. There's no real need to land the thing. After you suck the science out, you can use it some more if you like.

If you right click on your antenna you can change "Require complete" to "allow partial" and your lab will run out of power during transmission and flash some warnings, but your solar panels will intermittently charge the batteries and you'll eventually transmit it all.

Huh.  I guess I never looked into what that meant.  Makes sense.  Seems like that should be default...

Once you hit the "transmit" button, you can't change your mind. You have to wait and babysit the thing, and you can easily lock up that entire craft for a year while it transmits a dribble every 20 seconds.

Oh, well that makes sense then.  But you can leave focus, and it will continue to transmit?

okay Thanks to all....

There is no docking port ..

Plan A : was to send a another rocket with storage container and see if I could use the scientists to transfer it over.

But now that I fully understand the partial transmit thingy ..that should work. I dont care how long it takes.  Dah boys were processing for almost a year.

The claw is another interesting angle.

Thanks to all for the info and advice. ! I think I have months of fun ahead trying ALL options..just to see...

Thx  again !
