Terrain Glitch

Recommended Posts

Whenever I get to 100 km above the surface, several 'tiles' start to sort of slide across Kerbin. It only happens above 100 km. Here is a video:

Note: I am using KSP version 1.4.5.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: It sometimes makes the entire peninsula under the space center slide along with the ocean tiles.

Do you have any mods installed? More specifically visual enhancement mods? It could be that. Otherwise it could simply be a graphical glitch with your game.

Also, does it appear in your other save files (separate games)?

I have this when I abuse the textures and exhausts the VRAM of my video card. Sometimes, I even recognize some bits of the image from other opened windows. :)

use the texture compression setting from Settings from the Main Menu. It helped for me.

It's a completely stock install.

It appears in every 1.4.5 install and save. Not sure about other versions though.

This has been attributed before to the Scatterer mod, but obviously in a stock install that can't be the case. Apparently it's not a harmless graphical glitch either: those floating squares have been reported to actually collide with ships, or missing squares causing ships to explode when trying to land.

Scatterer may have just triggered it faster, but perhaps it's something underlying the stock game after all?

anyone found a solution for this? i have exactly the same problem, on KSP updated to the latest version (1.8), without any mods whatsoever. when i go around 100 km above KSC, water tiles below start floating and sliding just as shown in the video above. tried to start a new game, and the same happened. tried to change a few graphical settings, but the issue persisted.

i did some more investigation... it turns out that it's the water texture/mesh sliding away. this leaves big rectangular gaps where there is no water, but you can still see the land below which (i guess) has a shader that turns blue under 0km.

there is no water, but you can splash in these gaps and it gets you a splashing animation, just like if there was water. the problem appears when you go above 100km, but if you go even higher, at some point the issue solves itself, and then you can reentry in the same area without seeing anything wrong.

the issue may be the same as this reported bug: https://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/issues/23902, only in that case it's on Eve.
