Some way to read off orientation of the Internal View camera?

I am working on a project that requires the ability to check the direction the camera is facing when in internal view mode. I have been searching the docs, and have looked at the source code of mods like KerbTrack, and have turned up nothing.

As an inexperienced modder, I was hoping that someone would be able to point me in the right direction.

Where camera is the cam you are referring too.
