Supersonic parachutes

The MK16 parachute looks very similar to the curiosity and Insight droque parachutes what if we had a seperate parachute that can handle up to 500 ms per second just around mach 1 above mach 1 it will shred it self to pieces and they can be only be attachment point only as a disadvantage

hows the suggestion?

That's . . . exactly what Drogue chutes are.

If you notice carefully, you can clearly see that their safe deployment speeds are roughly around Mach 1.3

Heck, the normal parachute opens at ~0.66 Mach

If you are plummeting to the ground above Mach 1.5, I think that the parachutes are the least of your problems! :)

Mach 1.5 is quite slow compared to usual reentry velocity - only just below 500m/s. You could probably push Duna reentry velocity to maybe 5km/s - many times the speed of sound.

What's still the least of your problems! :)

It's not the speed that kills you. It's the sudden stop!

Kerbals are also quite good at surviving that. You could probably return to kerbin, no parachutes, in just a small service bay.

On 1.3.1 times, when they forgot or messed up the helmet's collision meshes, perhaps.

From 1.4, at least for me, falling from the VAB is enough to kill mine!
