Keep the old savegame when getting MHE

I'm considering when or if I should get the expansion. However, is it possible to keep my old saves vanilla? That is, as they are now: Without other parts and so forth (I'm not sure what the expansion adds besides this).

Sorry, but if you get the parts for one aspect of the game you also get them for the others. You could, however, simply not use them. There are lots of parts I never use for aesthetic or other reasons.

Thanks. Then I guess I'll keep playing without the expansion until I have explored everything in the system or I get bored or my curiosity urges me to get the expansion.
