50 Years of The Earth Rising Picture.

On December, 24 1968 , Apollo 8 took the historical Earth Rising shot. By plain luck.  

This is my humble homage to the deed. Kerbal style.

Note: This shot is from Apollo 11. The original from Apollo 8 had some weird colours, so I took some artistic licence.

By some reason, Valentine never gets excited when I try to get the same image without "cheating".

I tried for a whole afternoon hours, and she just don't care!

You will have to excuse me, but I have never thought that the original Apollo 8 photo had weird colours.  What photo were you looking at?

This one, for example. Probably due the fact that they didn't had proper equipment for the task - nobody had though about before launch, this picture was a stroke of luck!

Pictures from Apollo 11 were way better - but they had these planned forehand.

Are you sure that is an Apollo 8 picture?  This NASA video to celebrate that photo would indicate that Bill Anders did not get in a photo that shows the earth that close to the moon horizon.  I have no complaints about the graphic you made, just a bit curious about your source  picture.

You got a point - I'm thrusting the source of that picture, what's not always a wise move.

I don't know who took the photo (and perhaps that one was colourised?). In doubt, I did what I should had done at first place. I looked on the NASA's Flicker account.

You are right. The color pictures are somewhat "washed", but are way better than that one I posted.
