Checking the status on GitHub, work does appear to be ongoing, though I would like to ask confirmation as to whether the release is planned for 1.8.1, or if you're holding out for 1.8.2

Word has it that 1.8.1 is the final 1.8 version and that work continues for 1.9. kopernicus will be for 1.8, though and it's nearing completion.

Thanks for the update!

edit: by which I mean the status update.

@Thomas P., @Galileo and others - thanks so much for continuing to develop and test this while having to deal with 6+ pages of people pestering for updates in violation or ignorance of the forum policies. Every. single. update. I can't contribute to everyone's Patreon, but if any of you are ever up in Seattle (where I work) or Tacoma (where I live), hit me up with a PM and I'll buy you coffee, or a beer, or lunch. Seriously.

It kinda sucks, having to wait for updates to release before the devs can work on kopernicus.

I wonder if there's a future possibility for the game devs to work with devs of integral version-locked mods like this one (there aren't really any others that come to mind, though) so that mods like this one can update even a little sooner than they already do. The couple weeks of waiting isn't too bad, but it would improve quality of life for the mod devs who then have to deal with less nagging over updates, for the devs of mods dependent on mods like kopernicus, and for the antsy players who want to immediately pack their newly-updated games with crazy mods, to be able to release things a little sooner. Even if it isn't straight up showing mod devs the code, giving them a heads up of any major changes in the coding (like the Unity update, for example) may help expedite the process for the devs, who I assume are already short on time thanks to their daily lives.

Just an open-ended thought, though.

Thank you for all the hard work getting this to 1.8.1. This is literally the last mod in my list that is needing updated before I can make the jump to 1.8.1, and I realize, as a programmer myself, that the amount of effort that devs put out to make this work correctly is often a whole lot of work for very little parts here and there in return. Regardless, I just wanted to thank the devs and everyone working on this. You're the best. =)

Just sliding in to check on this most essential mod and say thanks for the continued development. As I have had the game since 2013, I have learned to rather enjoy the breaks the update cycle provides. Did you know there are actually other good games out there?:o:cool::0.0: Good to go when this is good to go though, the few others that are not updated tend to work across update cycles anyway.

Now off to play my favorite 'waiting for KSP mods updates' game, Oxygen Not Included.

First of all, thank you for the hard work and all efforts you put into this mod!

One bug (or feature?) really drives me crazy in KSP. The craft has a strange rotation when the frame reference is the body it is orbiting, instead of the Sun (or better, the "space"). I have reported it here, but there are many discussions elsewhere from years back. With some planet packs (e.g., at Kaelon in Snarkiverse + Kerbol Origins) is really annoying.

Is it possible to edit the threshold (100km on most of the bodies above sea level) with Kopernicus? If so, then which parameter is it?

It would be great to set it to a fixed value, but even better if we could set to max(atmospehere_height, max_terrain_height)+1m.

--- Edit ---

On GitHub:

inverseRotThresholdAltitude = ?Altitude where the Game switches the reference frame in meters

Is this the one? I try to test...

I always figured the drift was due to inaccuracies of showing precise positioning in limited amounts of pixels -> user error. The more you know!

Instead of fixing it (which I would guess would involve quite a bit of work considering the age of the 'bug') you could work around it by using the Persistent Rotation mod as it allows you to pick the frame of reference manually.

Great idea, thanks!

I need to look into how to recompile Persistent Rotation for 1.8, it seems.

It's living in my wishlist along with Rimworld and a few others. As the company I worked for closed their doors leaving me unemployed at 60, with a rare skillset in a dying market, they must remain there until I regain gainful employment.

I've had Oxygen Not Included since a few days after it's early access launch. I've had KSP since the 0.13 days. So I have a deeper fondness for it for similar reasons to KSP.

That's a real bummer, sorry to hear.

Just curious what the rare skillset is

@linuxgurugamer, I am an A-2 mechanic.

Hehehe, yeah I know that means nothing. I repair and maintain an antique style of Brunswick pinsetters (bowling machines). Only two of the five bowling alleys here run the old things as most switched over to GS machines decades ago and there are no openings at the alleys with A-2's unless someone dies. Unfortunately the skills don't transfer as the old machines were pure mechanical and the new ones are mostly solenoid driven so no interest from the GS side.

Bowling itself is, and has been since the 1990's in huge decline. Which is why most have added casinos here, with six (now seven) closing their doors. The one I worked for had a casino formerly, but when it was sold to some of the employees just before it would of been leveled, that meant going through the entire application process again. As this happened multiple times when one of the partners got fed up and withdrew, we were in perpetual 'Casino opening soon' mode for the last four years.

We had a very nice restaurant rather than a snack bar (although we served scratch made pizza's and all normal snack bar stuff as well), and an awesome bar with 22 microbrews on tap and used comfortable couches rather than bowling furniture. We also had four projectors with screens over the lanes showing music videos and ran cosmic bowling constantly. We were voted best alley in town eight years strait and were always packed. But being we only had 16 lanes it just wasn't enough to sustain us. A large part due to the expense of maintaining machines that were basically electricity vampires. The machines were installed in 1957, got synthetic lanes in 1977, computer networking in 1991 (486 chipsets, not upgradable due to Brunswick proprietary equipment), electronic scoring in 2003. So it was a mismash of barely compatible equipment. But I did learn a lot about networking and classic computers and even built several brand new (old stock) 486 computers during my time.

I had hoped to retire there, even though the pay for pinsetter mechanics isn't great, it is livable. And it's really an interesting job. Now I'm pounding the pavement at 60, along with the other two mechanics, though they are both younger than me. Definitely not what I expected.

More than you wanted to know, sorry about that. I forgot to uncheck the verbose setting.

Have a great day, O' master of mods and keeper of the gates!

You've probably already thought about it and I don't know what may be near you, but a lot of industrial/manufacturing operations depend on ancient computer equipment to run the production machines.  Also  commercial enterprises that are highly regulated for financial/privacy/medical or other informational or record-retention reasons often have old computers/networks that they are required by law or regulatory compliance reasons to maintain.

Good luck!

I fired up Ckan and saw there was an update for Kopernicus.  Im running KSP 1.5.1 and have been playing this instance for several years now.  I use GrannusExpansionPack  but have never reached this new solar system yet.  Would there be any reason for me to upgrade Kopernicus to its latest version for 1.5.1 or should i just leave it alone.  My concerns are that i dont want to reach this new solar system and have it bugged up or not working or something.  I dont know personally if my current version works since i have never made it to the new system yet.

Anyone have any advise for me regarding updating kopernicus or should i leave it alone.  I dont want to break it :)

The prospect that the latest version of KSP will soon have a matching version of Kopernicus to go along with matching versions of Planetshine, EVE and Scatterer is actually really exciting.  It's the sort of Grand Conjunction that should open a monolith for a journey beyond the infinite or something.

Just want to say thankyou for your post, pslytely psycho (and I love your "handle" so much I just typed it out by hand!).

I too went the unfortunate career route of "become one of the country's top experts in a specific technological niche *just* when everyone is giving up on using that technology altogether". =:o\ (In my case, it was "Clearcase Multisite" performance and trouble-shooting.) Your story both saddened me and warmed my heart. It's good to meet a brother in arms.

For me, that was over a decade ago. Since then I've been working in retail. The pay's lousy, but it's much better for my physical health. (Warehouse work is a like a gym membership where *they* pay *you*! =:o} ). Except at this time of year, which is hella intense. =:o\

[SALUTES] both to you, and to @linuxgurugamer

Can't wait to see what the future holds for Kopernicus, and KSP mods in general... [SITS RAPT, WITH FISTFULS OF POPCORN RAPIDLY VANISHING INTO MAW]

Don't forget Distant Object Enhancement. So happy that one got picked up.

Are there any estimates when Kopernicus 1.8.1 might be completed? The imminent Danger of wrecked Safegames without it is making me increasingly nervous.
