We are getting in visual range of the bridge, lots of fuel left.

So far this trip has been like taking candy from a baby.

I also found out the dropped tank disappeared after I recovered the cargo jet.

It'll come off as "debris" and in the Settings you have a Debris limit.  I doubt Triop would do such a thing as set Debris to Zero but it's exactly the kind of prank that Wernher likes to pull.

The other possibility with any airdrop is that if you fly out of physics range (you already know this) while the debris is still "airborne", it will get wiped.  (Gene, this time.)

And, yeah, I don't blame you not using Acme exactly, as it's butt-ugly, I admit.  [Am I allowed to say that?!]  And overkill for refueling just a rover.

UPDATE: temptingly, I've just noticed that the Acme is likely retrievable by the right kind of transport craft.  It would simply drive over the device and then sit on its VERT claw to re-attach it to the underbelly.

I checked, it's set at 250 ? Whatever that means.

Don't say that, it's simple and functional, to me that equals beauty.

Putting the smaller probe core on it would likely be a solution.  The other possibility is it was too close to the runway or launch pad and got cleaned up by the next launch, like what happens to launch clamps.  Would need to experiment to figure out what's what.

Indeed.

That's what you call a "JUMP SCARE!!"  (Serves you right, by the way: always keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel -- and put that cell phone away!)

Wow!!!  You're lucky you've designed and built a stronk rover, able to do all sorts of flips.  Swear it's made of Stalinium. :)

And I can see there should be no chance of driving off the sides of the bridges.  Whether they'll survive you driving over them, considering what happens to the runway at the base.... :)

Anything worth doing is worth doing twice.

Looks like I spoke too soon.  Rover and bridge both survived.  Rover confirmed made of Stalinium.  Some rover trim accessories confirmed make of cheap capitalist cardboard.  Jeb confirmed not wanted to be tied down.

I wonder if the rover could have had a KAS winch on it and do self-recovery?

(And still out of likes, for now.)

I tried the small winch, but I have no attach points nearby.

Then I tried letting Jeb pushing the buggy against the railing and to my surprise, it worked !

We've lost a battery, some wings and solar panels, but the wheels are still fine.

We made it across the bridge, soon we will be driving in the desert. &)

I think we are doing great so far, except from:

- Flipping 40 minutes after start

- Blowing up a runway

- Crashing on a totally flat surface bridge.

I think it's time we gave the buggy a cooler name then Skelter 101.

Any name suggestions ?

I'm fresh out of name ideas.  Except the tired Lucky Rover 1.

And hey, what's that "F5 Freedom Fighter Debris" ?!?  That must be the parachuted drop tank!  What happened, did it sink into the ground?

Consider "Misfortunate Prime", since this car seems to have a knack for finding itself in trouble. ;)

Back into our adventure, I don't like this upcoming route.

I hate driving in the dark . . .

Good thing Jebediah's made of sterner stuff.  And literally rolls with the punches.

"Ah Mission Control here, roger on that green desert.  We've sent it to the boys in the back rooms to figure out.  We'll see what it looks like come sun-up.  This is...Mission Control."

@Jacke I can't see anything in your spoiler ? Did you upload a YT link ?

Strange.  Yup, it was a YouTube link, this one.  Don't know why it went bye-bye for you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tLf1JO5bvE

In other news, I was just going through a number of KSP settings and saw this one (Settings > General > System)

"Tidy up debris cluttering KSC                                      (X)"  (defaults ON)

It may have been added to clear launch clamps immediately instead of waiting until the next launch on the pad.  But for you, it may have ate your drop tank.

It's been in the game at least since KSP 1.3.  Myself, I'm going to turn this off for now.

The link works fine now, might have been a glitch from my side.

I like sand.

Thanks for the settings info, I'll look into that later.

@Triop

Did you do this already?

FtkfKxT.png

I think climbing at the Kerbalaya would be a challenge you would enjoy, with rovers, etc, and all your good stuff!

What do you think about it?

Correction: the Kerbalaya is not on this mountain btw (wrong pic^^)

Well, actually I was there not so long ago for testing the buggy. (*If you mean Mount Kraken, the highest point on Kerbin)

Didn't came far then, but it's surely something I will do.
