[1.4.0 - 1.6.x] CollisionFX-Updated [0.8.3.1]

All I wanted to do was look at a neglected contract pack, and we ended up here.

Version 0.8.3.1

  • SPARKS!   SOUNDS!   DUST!
  • Sparks are better than the first release
  • Dust trails are currently turned off, but now that we have sparks it should be a lot easier to tackle.
  • Colored dust trails don't work either, like I said, I only wanted to fix a contract pack
  • Dust impacts should work-ish
  • Sounds mostly not working in places
  • Sparks (and everything else) are a work in progress. I wanted to tag and release.
  • Tested on 1.4.0 - 1.6.x
  • The tolerance is pretty low for the sparks (small bumps will trigger them). After all, we are here to kick the tires.
  • I appreciate your feedback, particularly if you see any performance issues (this should be lightweight)
  • Changes
    •  fix most occurrences of parts that won't stop singing

Really happy to see this! Thank you for taking this on.

The sounds are terrific, and that "sliding across the pavement with a big, heavy, metal beast" feeling is perfectly created. :)

If you are looking for initial feedback on the sparks: they seem overly voluminous/billowy, and also seem to have too little weight/velocity, if that makes sense. The previous animations behaved a bit more like sparklers with a shorter tail, and much quicker decay. Maybe even a little brighter/white at the onset?

Again, so excited you're doing this, and will have a blast to keep crashing and testing things as you develop it!

Sparks are definitely a work in progress. After learning the new system, then testing new code while turning old code off, can be an exercise. It works, then I break it for hours.

I got them working, turned them up, tagged, and released. There are lots of knobs and levers inside that will keep me busy, but I myself was quite happy to have it and thought I would share.

One question though: do Kerbals emit rainbows and stars when they bounce over the surface?

Why do I ask? No idea. It’s 6am and I’m still awake ;)

If a Nyan-mode spin-off for this mod ever gets developed, you'll be credited, for sure.

Did a quick test with the new version -- it's looking great, but holy cow-- it eats frames for breakfast!

I tried it in a game that has only Scatterer and MM installed.

Considering the below bit in the OP I'm guessing something's not quite going as it should. I haven't yet had time to actually play KSP so I can't comment on the performance just yet. :/

@Battou This should fix it

@Grigetio it works perfectly  ... an essential mod....it just works...

Really?

I just tried 0.8.3 on my (mostly) clean install, and get less than 1fps when belly-flopping an Aries (the small stock plane).

I don't think I've done anything unique to my detail/graphics settings -- but any chance that's what causing such bad performance for me? I've got scatterer (and nothing else) loaded, so my normal fps is 46-50.

I honestly don't know? On my install it works perfectly however I have no graphical mods installed.

I'll try it without scatterer -- in case there's something wildly at conflict there -- though it did the same in my main game, that has zero visual mods running (yet).
