Welcome everybody to the Zircon Aerospace Craft Collection. Here I will be presenting all the military aircraft I have created. Some of them will be stock, others will contain BDA and or AirplanePlus. I have started this catalog because I've been designed a lot of aircraft for a challenge lately and thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to have them all in a single spot for people to check out. I will keep this catalog updated as I create more aircraft, some of which probably won't be posed in the challenge I mentioned earlier. I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys think, enjoy!

Zircon DF-10 "Hekla"

The Hekla is an early attempt at producing an aircraft capable of supersonic flight. It is equipped with 2 afterburning engines, capable of thrusting the plane forwards up to speeds as high as mach 1.1. These speeds are reached at altitudes over 5000m, lower than that is still capable of reaching speeds in excess of 1000km/h. On top of this, we've also made sure the aircraft would be capable of being used by the navy. It features flaps for a boost in lift and an arresting hook. On top of that you can use the afterburners to accelerate even faster. Thanks to the excess of wing surface, the DF-10 only needs a very short runway to take off and land. Armament consists of 4 machine guns mounted in the nose. On top of that it has 6 missiles mounted under the wings.

Zircon DEF-18 "Chinyero"

The Chinyero is a late world war 2 fighter. It was designed specifically with carrier duties in mind, as such it features an arresting hook and is also capable of getting airborne quickly. Propulsion consists of 2 engines, mounted under the structural pylons connecting the tail to the rest of the aircraft. The powerplant isn't exactly the most powerful one (4 juno's for ~11 ton), leading to a very limited top speed of mach 0.4. It makes up for that top speed with excellent maneuverability at all achievable speeds. The DEF-18 would feel most at home dogfighting with other planes. By default it comes equipped with 2 small bombs and 6 machine guns (just some antennas).

Zircon SEF-16 "Marsili"

The SEF-16 was mostly designed to be both easy to produce and easy to fly. The resulting aircraft is rather small and has excellent maneuverability. However, a simpler engine layout does make for less performance in the speed range, its top speed is only just above mach 1. Thanks to this low speed, the Marsili is also fairly suited to a roll as trainer aircraft. Armament is made up out of 2 guns mounted in the nose, and 4 missiles mounted under the wings.

Zircon SI-11 "Kelud"

The Zircon SI-11 was designed with one thing, and one thing only, in mind. Getting somewhere as fast as possible, for this matter we have fitted the SI-11 with an extra powerful version of the panther turbofan (*cough* 2 over each other *cough*). The powerful engine allow the Kelud to reach speeds as high as mach 2.7, speeds at which it should easily be capable of catching bombers of the same era. For maximum performance it is advised to drop the extra fuel tank mounted on the bottom, while it does provide for a significant chunk of extra range, it limits the aircraft in its abilities. As requested, the airplane is quite limited in size, being a mere 12.9m long and an even more modest 8 meters wide. It features 4 hard points under the wings, they can be used to mount both missiles and bombs. By default we have mounted 4 missiles. The hard point under the hull can also be used to mount bombs instead of the standard fuel tank. We have also mounted 2 cannons in the nose as a backup weapon.

Zircon SFB-12 "Kelud-II"

A further development of the Kelud interceptor. Thanks to some significant changes its role has changed from interceptor to more of a fighter/small fighter-bomber. The aircraft features a twin engine instead of a single one, a completely redesigned wing and actual elevators. Other small changes are a slightly redesigned cockpit, new intake design, ... . Speed between the old and the new model has remained unchanged, which is good news since the Kelud was capable of very high speeds. The Kelud-II adds to this with highly improved aglity all across the board. Its also capable of taking off a lot faster and features an arresting hook for carrier duties. Armament consists of 6 AGMs and 2 cannons.

Zircon DFB-14 "Agung"

Being used to building lighter and more agile fighter, it was a bit of an adaptation for our engineers to build a bigger and heavier fighter-bomber, but in the end we're quite satisfied with our result. The final aircraft is a two-seater jet, powered by twin extra-powerful panther engines, capable of thrusting the plane up to mach 1.3 at sea level, and mach 2.6 at altitude. The aircraft has a very short takeoff run thanks to a set of flaps and large control surfaces. This makes it ideal for use on short runways and carrier decks. We've simply fitted every aircraft with arresting hooks, removing the necessity for a different navy-air force version. The landing gear can take a significant pounding as well, creating an aircraft perfectly suited for bumpy and short runways. The Agung is armed with 2 cannons and 6 AGM-65's (these can be replaced by any weapon of your choice). On top of that it carries to large fuel tanks by default, these can be switched out for weaponry as well, or left out entirely for better performance.

Zircon DEF-24 "Mayon"

Another (late) third generation fighter bomber. This one however is significantly smaller than the alternative, the Agung. The Mayon has been designed for a close air support role, featuring a set of 4 bombs, and a rotary cannon. On top of this it has 2 missiles attached to the wing tips. The Mayon is powered by 2 engines, giving the aircraft increased survivability and speed, being capable of speeds over mach 2(though it is worth noting that the aircraft doesn't get up to said speed very quickly). The aircraft also features a double cockpit, giving it room for a navigator, or possibly a mentor, allowing the aircraft to also be used as a trainer. Agility of the aircraft is quite excellent, being capable of turning very quickly, instability at high Gs is a threat though.

Zircon SEF-15 "Shiveluch"

The SEF-15B is a fighter designed to do exactly what its type is supposed to do, fight. It's powered by a single powerful jet engine which can, as usual, propel the craft up to speeds in excess of mach 2. Unlike earlier craft though, the Shiveluch has been designed with dogfighting in mind. As such it's highly maneuverable and can stay airborne and effective even at very low speeds. It is however not recommended to pull high G maneuvers at high speeds since 1. you will pull more G's than a pilot can physically survive, and 2. The setup of the airframe can experience instability in said maneuvers, it can easily and quickly be rectified, but we want to save you the trouble of finding it out yourself anyway. Armament consists of the standard double machine gun mounted in the nose, on top of that it carries 4 small missiles and 2 larger ones.

Zircon DFH-17 "Fuego"

A fourth generation heavy fighter for the navy. The DFH-17 "Fuego" is in fact a very heavily altered DFB-14. Only the cockpit, a small part of the hull and the vertical stabilizer have been left unchanged. Changes include: completely redesigned hull (2 hull pieces were moved away from each other and lengthened), implementation of a central wing area to increase lift, completely reworked wings (gone for a more aerodynamic wing shape to allow higher speed). All these changes make the Fuego into a fully fledged generation 4 aircraft. It can takeoff quickly, has more than adequate maneuverability and it's fast. All these features should allow the aircraft to come out on top in almost every battle with contemporary designs.

Zircon DEF-19 "Redoubt"

Another twinjet, twinseater fourth generation fighter but with a different design emphasis. This aircraft has been designed to carry out a specific set of missions requiring high agility and long range. As a result our engineers have made a fuel efficient and highly maneuverable jet, then they strapped on a whole bunch of extra fuel cans to make sure it can fly even further. The result is the DEF-19 "Redoubt". Obviously the aircraft can have its extra fuel tanks removed and replaced by armament should it be necessary. The price for the high fuel efficiency lies with the speed though. Capable of a top speed of only mach 1.1, the Redoubt won't usually be running away from anyone, but it will always have the edge when it comes down to a simple turnfight. Propulsion of the Redoubt is made up of 2 panther afterburning turbofans, which for the first time, have got the ability to vector their thrust, contributing to the high agility of the aircraft. Stock armament is very limited, being equipped with only 2 missiles and 2 cannons, but as said before, this can be altered.

Zircon SF-13 "Kelud-III"

A fairly small lightweight fighter. Designed to be a generation 4.5 aircraft, this fighter is capable of transonic cruise, exceptional maneuverability and high top speeds. (all of which are hindered when armament is present because KSP drag). The single engine design should also make it fairly easy to maintain, creating a highly efficient yet cheap fighter.
The Kelud-III is yet another development of the original Kelud. Unlike the Kelud-II though, this version sees the delta wing return, on top of that it has gained canards for extra agility. The rear control surfaces have also been redesigned, and so has the cockpit. It comes equipped with 4 wing mounted missiles, and 2 nose mounted cannons.

Zircon SEF-12 "Tecolote"

A generation 4.5 fighter, this aircraft is a direct competitor for our very own Kelud-III, though the Tecolote, featuring a completely new and modern design, should have a slight edge. The SEF-23 fits all the demands for a generation 4.5 aircraft, single engine, transonic cruise, etc etc. Being capable of cruising (unarmed because of crazy weapon drag) at speeds of about mach 0.8-0.9. When the afterburner is activated, it reaches speeds of over mach 2 at altitude. The engines have 2D thrust vectoring to further enhance the excellent agility of the aircraft. It can carry a whole lot of payload so it shouldn't have any problems fitting all modern weapon systems.

Zircon DEF-20 "Toba"

Generation 5 fighter. Twinjet, single seat aircraft. Features an entirely internal weapons bay (filled with bda weaponry for pictures, those aren’t there in the craft file). The Toba is highly agile (as close to supermaneuverable as you can get in stock KSP), but not very quick, in fact, it is incapable of reaching supersonic flight at all (though if there is a demand for it, a supersonic version will be created). The Toba also features a fairly complex hull design with a lot of areas facing in different angles, the reason for this is stealth. One can't imagine a generation 5 fighter without stealth technology, so Zircon did its very best at incorporating these techniques.

Zircon DEF-20-A "SuperToba"

A further upgrade of our most advanced fighter, the Toba. This new version features a whole set of improvements, increasing the all-round performance of the aircraft with a rather significant margin. First of all it has gained a completely new powerplant, allowing it to cruise at supersonic speeds, as well as reaching speeds over mach 2. The new engines also have a whole set of customization options, allowing it to cruise at a large range of different speed and fuel consumption levels. The increased weight of the new engines forced us to give up the canard design and instead switch to a more typical design. This switch has no negative effect on the maneuverability though, rather the opposite! To accompany the higher speeds we've also resigned the wings completely, switched to a more swept design. The vertical stabilizers have also had their design slightly tweaked. The weapons bay remains unchanged though.
