missing modules in vab crafts

Recommended Posts

hey I'm not sure what is the problem
but here is wht I know so far:

I updated a few mods at a time(so I can't know which one caused the problem)

and after that suddenly when I entered my saved game all the mks parts got reset to default(drills to dirt modules to default config etc etc)

it was annoying but I got it all figured out and kept playing

but now I noticed that some parts from kpbs(all the life suport parts recycler purifier etc)

are missing all the functionality and only have "aim camera" and "disassemble part" options in menu

also some crafts have warning by them "unknown part modules" and if I try opening them in vab it warns me something like "vessel craftname is missing part module modulename"
here is my installed mod list:

This sounds a little like a Module Manager problem. Are you running the most recent ModuleManager.dll? Make sure you only have the most recent version in your GameData directory, and try deleting all Module Manager files except the dll. That'd be my first suggestion.

Kind of like the KSP version of "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" XD

Yeah, looks like it's up to date. Still worth trying deleting ModuleManager.ConfigCache, ModuleManager.ConfigSHA, ModuleManager.Physics, and ModuleManager.TechTree just to see what happens. Those aren't downloaded with MM, they're built when it runs, and I've had issues where they collect garbage from time to time.

The reason I mentioned it though is that Kerbalism recently had a very similar issue, where some of its modules weren't working with Module Manager 4.0.1. That's why 4.0.2 exists, because something new that MM was doing was conflicting with Kerbalism. So you might check the Module Manager page to see if anyone is mentioning similar issues there, and of course the USI-LS page.

Other than that, that isn't that extensive of a mod list, so a clean reinstall would probably be easier than extensively digging into logs and such.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Oh, also... if you have had other mods installed in the past in this installation of KSP, but removed them, I recommend going through and making sure to manually delete their folders. Sometimes CKAN isn't perfect about removing files that the mods generated themselves in runtime, and sometimes those can mess things up. Check for 000_ModName and zzzModName varieties as well.

I tried deleting the aforementioned files and it didn't help.

by a clean reinstall you mean pruning gamedata folder (aside of squad folder ofcourse) and reinstalling all mods?

This has absolutely nothing to do with Module Manager. Look at threads for USI and KPBS for help.

The latest update of USI was save breaking. The functionality the life support features changed. All related life support modules were renamed, so that would explain why existing craft files are throwing warnings about missing modules.

KPBS has not been officially updated to work with it yet, but if you look at the KPBS thread there are some workarounds described.

I held out on updating to this version until I was ready for a new game and am still avoiding KPBS parts waiting on an official update. I get missing module warnings all the time if I load a old craft file. I just swap out the USI related parts.

@alien_wind I believe the parts need to be swapped manually. Just loading them may strip out the missing modules, but I don't know that it adds missing ones. I'll admit it's not something I've tested.

For the future, you might consider backing up your entire game directory before doing updates for large complicated mods. I've got dozens of copies of my entire KSP tree named for the date it was copied and why it was done, i.e. Kerbal Space Program - 190209 - Before USI update.

Besides being able to revert if there are problems, I can compare what's different. I use a tool Beyond Compare from https://www.scootersoftware.com/ to compare file and directory trees.
