Taco = Sandwich?

Sandwiches are mainly Meat, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion and Mayo.

Tacos are mainly Meat, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion and Salsa.

Are tacos a sandwich and are sandwiches a taco?

Also, this post has gotten on the TOTM awards!

Tacos are not a sandwich because the taco shell consists of a single manifold, where in a sandwich there are two separate buns. Tacos are also held orthogonal to sandwiches.

No, just because two things have similar components does not mean they are interchangeable.

Indeed - fructose is not glucose.

Tacos are a subset of sandwiches.

I disagree.

Quote

A sandwich is a food typically consisting of vegetables, sliced cheese or meat, placed on or between slices of bread, or more generally any dish wherein two or more pieces of bread serve as a container or wrapper for another food type

A taco shell is only a singular item, and is not bread.   Ergo, Tacos are not sandwiches.

A taco shell is made from a tortilla, which is a type of flatbread.

I have had items, which no one would disagree were sandwiches, made from a loaf of bread sliced open, but not separated.  Therefore, a sandwich can consist of a single outer item.  Also, a wrap is a type of sandwich, cosisting of filling inside a single flatbread.

How you hold it does not matter.

Just now, cubinator said:

Yes it does. If you hold it the wrong way everything will fall out.

There are multiple ways of holding a sandwich, such that the filling does or does not fall out.

All that means is that if the filling falls out, you are holding your sandwich wrong.

I consider tacos a subset of burritos, which are separate from sandwiches thanks to both typical fillings and fact that tortillas do not rise like bread, even if tortillas themselves are a form of flatbread.

The intersection of the bread type of burritos and the filling type of sandwiches is the wrap.

The opposite (bread from sandwiches, filling from burritos) is a Torta. Conveniently, torta refers to a different kind of food in 13 separate languages, but I'm referring to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torta#Mexico

See also the sandwich alignment chart:

Topologically, the sandwiches are not equivalent to the tacos because their envelope components do not form a connected region.

But both of them are particular cases of N-region coverage of a sphere. Can't formulate it more correctly in English, but you got the idea.

As well, meat fried in bread crumbs is a polyregional case of the same, at N→.

We should construct a cladogram based on morphological traits to find out which ones are inherited and which ones are derived. This way we should be able to deduct the relations between and phylogeny of sandwiches, tacos, bocadillos, canapés, heated canids, etc.

If you read the actual rule, it states:

Quote

“Sandwiches” as used in articles 47 and 48 of Title 12, C.R.S. are defined as single serving items such as hamburgers, hot dogs, frozen pizzas, burritos, chicken wings, etc.  “Light snacks” as used in articles 47 and 48 of Title 12, C.R.S. are defined as popcorn, pretzels, nuts, chips, etc.

Notice, a Taco is not on the list.   But Burritos are.

I would argue that since you cannot eat just one taco, it is not a single serving item, therefore is not part of the etc on the list.   And, a single serving of chicken wings is not just a solitary wing, but a number of them, hence it's inclusion in this list.

Oh well then that makes so much more sense.

But the " such as" and "etc." indicate this is a non-exhaustive list, and other items may be included.  As a burrito is included, other "tortilla with filling" items, such as a taco, would be considered sandwiches.

So, tacos are not included, because you eat more than one, but wings are included, because you eat more than one?
