We're working on branding for a certain Austrian-influenced resort right now, which means designing lobbies,  furniture, fireplaces etc. Part of that is selecting the art package, which includes 1930s-1940's alpine ski art... which brings us to my fun new game at work: googling whether the artists we may or may not include were or were not actual national fascists. :puke:

Ah, don't be too hard on yourself.

I have spent an entire evening reading through all 70 pages of this thread, and oh boy, a lot of it is depressing. Pets and family members passing away tragically, COVID, and it made me sad. I guess that’s my negative thing of the day. :(

In fairness a million+ people in the US died of Covid in the last 2 years, more than double the number of Americans who died in all of WWII, but our society has utterly lost its mind and morals so the folks who felt it like the human catastrophe that it was are made to feel crazy.

This happened a few weeks ago, and compared to some of the other negative things I've seen on here this is barely anything.

One of my dad's friends is opening a restaurant in Hartford (I think it was called Jefe Takeout), and we went over there while he worked on cleaning the grease trap and fixing stuff in the bathroom, and I was sitting (no chairs/tables, but in front of the windows there is an about foot-wide ledge thing inside that is good for sitting on. I was playing some KSP on my laptop and drawing some European trucks on a clipboard, when the young child of either my dad's friend or the sister of her friend asked my mom, who was sitting right next to me, if I was a boy or a girl, on account of my long-ish hair (it reaches just about to my shoulders). I know he genuinely didn't know, but it still annoyed the heck out of me at that moment.

mom needed another medical "vacation", this time more routine stuff.  because she doesnt have any friends and i am the only one who tolerates her crap, i get the not so fun job of being escort. most people like the excitement of traveling, especially for free, but i really hate travel. to the point where i wont go see the out-of-town cardiologist that my doctor keeps trying to send me to. its just too stressful on me and my cats. anyway after setting up everything the medical center in seattle canceled on her literally in the final hours. after spending the last week or so stressing out and psyching myself up for the inevitable hell trip (and poor mom was 3 days into her rather strict pre-test diet), its now been bucked down the line. i just wanted it out of the way yet its still looming on the horizon. i keep hoping uncle vlad makes good on his nuclear threats so i dont have to go anywhere.

Gassed up the SUV this morning. >$100.

I should listen to the Senator from MI who just observed that driving her electric vehicle to DC over the weekend she just drove past the gas stations and the high price didn't matter! Oh, wait, I already reserved an EV... which I won't get for a few years. I suppose I could buy a used tesla for more than it cost new, but I'm pretty sure most people can't buy a $100k plus car to avoid gas prices even if one was actually available to buy (cheaper teslas for all of 2022 were sold out last year).

Let them eat cake!

Not to mention that you can't possibly move everyone to EVs to escape hydrocarbon fuel prices when the power grid is in large part hydrocarbon-driven.

Ah, yes, the memetic shortage returns! Aeroflot employees instructed to keep a tight inventory of toilet paper and Kleenex, perform a handover upon return, and not to leave any excess bundles unattended. Currently implemented only for this week's Antalia and Istanbul flights.

LOL, yes. Moving the tailpipe to someone else's neighborhood.

I reserved a cybertruck because I think it's incredibly cool looking, and the teslas I have driven are fun (shockingly fast). Powering much of it with solar on the house is certainly possible where I happen to live (1980m altitude, 300+ sunny days a year), but that's just gravy, not a motivator.

on of my neighbors is having a fight with one of their other neighbors.  unfortunately getting them evicted them will require starting ww3.

As someone who has lived in an apartment for most of my life, usually it is the idiot picking the fight with the other neighbor that usually starts the war. I've lived in the same townhouse complex since 2011 and am beginning to think the townhouse on the north side of me is cursed. The last three sets of neighbors I've had have who've lived there have not exactly been friendly. And each of them lived there and were evicted in under a year.

Perhaps an exorcism or other sort of spiritual cleansing is in order?

A whole new (or ancient) meaning of “take possession “…

healthcare is stupid. so stupid i would rather die of something preventable than put myself in their care. whats more, healthcare is evil. it likes to cast patients to the four winds for the myriads of diagnostic tests, book flights on monopolistic airlines that skimp on the legspace, put them and their mandatory escorts in shadey hotels, grant them food coupons that can only be claimed in a hospital cafeteria, rip off cab drivers with their voucher system so much that they refuse to service them, pump funds into some of the most opulent architecture i have ever seen, all so they can do a 20 minute test that comes up inconclusive. granted this wasnt my diagnostic, i was the escort. but it seriously has me questioning whether its a good idea to go to extreme measures to enable humans to live to ages > 50.

also our town wants to spend 200 million on a new hospital when they cant even afford to put doctors and equipment into the hospital we got which are capable of doing basic 20 minute tests.

The staircase in my house has 12 steps. For some reason as I was coming down the stairs my brain thought there were only 11 steps. Lo and behold, I put my foot where I thought there was floor only to find air, and I was way past being able to stop myself from going forward.

Well I DID stop myself, about 10 inches lower where the floor actually was. you'd think falling 10 inches wouldn't be a big deal, but my big toe - which took the entire brunt of my forward momentum sped by gravity - would disagree with you.

I don't seem to have broken anything but man it hurts.

In our house all stairways have same amount and height of stairs, except the ground floor, which has two big lower stairs (of total nine) instead of three normal ones...

Additional fun: this floor has no illumination, so it's always dark.

So, unless you care, you either "fall" from one of them because it's higher than upper stairs, either "stamp into the floor" thinking there is one stair more, or kick the first stair because you should raise the foot a little more than usually, or kick the fourth stair because you are trying to step on the third which is lower than the previous second.
