Episode 1 : New Beginnings

Despite the Universe Reboot, mission naming continued over. Thus, the first mission in the Universe 2.0 was still labeled Bluesky 6. As is tradition every time the Universe is restarted, Valentina flies the first mission. Jeb tried to, but slipped on a banana peel and apparently you can't fly a rocket with a black eye because of "safety" and "administrative statutes" or something.

TRZDzpF.jpg

The Science Points gathered were quite interesting. However, the mission being a standard Flea jumper really, really wasn't, so the Magicamera 9000 was kept off most of the flight except to document that it did in fact happen for "government accountability" reasons (read, the Scientists wanted something cool for the wall)

For Bluesky 7, the engineers found an old capsule laying around from a previous iteration of the Universe and decided to use it for laziness cost saving reasons

YO3Ikvu.jpg

Jebediah managed to sneak on to the rocket ahead of Val, whose car was mysteriously up on blocks that morning. She got there eventually, but, posession being 90% of the law and already being in the air being the other 10%, Jeb got to fly this one

yeD0uWD.jpg

Jeb repeated a manuver from the previous Universe's Bluesky 2 mission. The safety team were slightly less annoyed, but still threatened him with a safety seminar. He reminded them that he was the one with the rocket, and an egines effectiveness as a drive is proportional to its effectiveness as a weapon.

BDXBJPw.jpg

Despite the Safety Team's insistence that he broke 71 safety guidelines, Jeb was allowed to return home without being tortured sent to a safety seminar.

kYR09rU.jpg

Bluesky 8 was a mission to gather Science! from the new Science Jr units. Someone called Samantha managed to sneak into the rocket, insisting she was in fact Val despite that fact that her suit was just as white as the rocket she was flying. The personnel manager that let her on didn't need to be executed for incompetence, as someone who insisted she was his girlfriend murdered him later that day.

99qqa50.jpg

Whoever Samantha Kerman was, she was less drunk then Jeb and a better pilot than Val, so she was officially hired.

F9EbqBk.jpg

With the mission recovered, the R&D Team went about melting down the hard drive of the capsule into new rocket parts.

Tune in next time for orbits and Minmus!

Episode 2 : Science Shenanigans

The R&D Team hadn't gathered enough melted hard drive componentry to rediscover solar panels, so they sent out Bob in a converted fanboat to use up more hard drive space by taking samples from around the KSC

ALXRaI4.jpg

This was inexplicably effective, gathering over 200 Science! and it was decreed by administration that all future rockets be made out of fanboat spares.

With this done and technologies such as 1.875m and 2.5m fuel tanks discovered by reading the patterns in the melted hard drives, it was time to launch Greenpeak 2 to Minmus.

5EyUPqT.jpg

The lack of 1.875m engines left a noticeable gap in the middle of the rocket, which Jeb filled with spare beer.

a29rnDI.jpg

Stage separation gave a glorious Korolev cross.

pwdNUcR.jpg

The first stage lingered around for a while after stage separation.

rQoBeVy.jpg

Being so drunk, Jeb launched at just about the worst time possible. It was around this time that someone thought to hire a mission control department before this escalates.

1EiOhS8.jpg

Bob, being only four beers deep by this point, managed to remember to do high-space science. He did forget to turn on the Magicamera for the ejection burn though.

EC90ubl.jpg

He was reminded to do so for the correction burn by the newly hired mission control department, though.

Wm9vLE2.jpg

A publicity photo of Minmus. Ignore the UI, this may have actually been most definitely was not taken in Human Space Program.

zhcswFt.jpg

The transfer stage used the last of its fuel to put the 3 barrels of beer and the crew in Minmus of orbit.

jK87EST.png

They landed in the Lowlands on what Jeb insists are the ship's landing legs

rcHvjE6.jpg

With EXACTLY 1800m/s of dV left, Jeb, Bob, and the beer kegs made a hop to the next biome.

paKX8zn.jpg

Jeb managed to land them just on the border of the Lowlands and the nearby flats so the ship rolled the rest of the way down the hill.

1vEmKo8.png

Bob shifted the beer around and managed to get the ship to balance upright.

HEhP5O9.jpg

With 1300 m/s of dV not counting what might be available from burning the beer as fuel, it was decided that a hop to the next flatlands over was in order.

G0oZ7iC.png

Bob thought the Great Flats were actually pretty boring. Jeb thought that [snore].

we0fZWt.png

There was probably enough fuel to visit another biome but Jeb was running low on beer so home we went. Bob insists that his takeoff method is "maximizing the use of the Oberth effect" or something. Administration insists he's a drunk thrill seeker.

B7wcyFY.jpg

Whatever the case, they were soon homeward bound. It was decided to use the lander stage as a destructively ablative heatshield. This worked surpisingly well and as always invincible service bays are invincible.

QX8U45Y.jpg

Having landed a novel problem arose. The lack of reaction wheels in the round capsule cause it to roll a fair distance (about 5km. Took a while.) before coming to a stop and being recovered by the Invisible Recovery PlaneTM

Recovered it was though, and the R&D Team melted down its hard drives into 2,150 Science!

Tune in next time for Greypeak 2!

Episode 3 : Mun Misadventures

With the newly developed parts it was decided that the next destination would be Mun, given that there were no upcoming transfer windows (I mean, there's Urlum, but... no)

A3SSch8.jpg

The craft for the job was Greypeak 2, a hilariously overpowered rocket (the lander alone is just about capable of Duna return from LKO, to say nothing of the launcher) for the purposes of hitting a number of biomes with two whole digits in it. Samantha and Bob were assigned to this mission, as the administration has decided to banish Jeb from beyond-LKO missions since it's too easy to sneak beer onto those much bigger rockets.

jddbsgK.jpg

The 1st stage has an abysmal TWR (1.19 off the pad)

NbwN6sS.jpg

A conservative gravity turn is used so the second stage will do most of the burning for orbit

rW52GM8.jpg

The lander reaches orbit. Samantha is worried that there'll be less dV then predicted, since the less-aggressive gravity turn means that the second stage did more work than it should have.

KvMc6xU.jpg

Fuel concerns aside, the injection burn went fine.

kIG87no.jpg

Bob insists the ship is facing up.

V7gX7f9.png

Samantha went straight from flyby to landing in the East Farside Crater because parking orbits are for noobs.

4zGpDIS.png

Safely touched down, Samantha reached for the EVA hatch. Her hand was promptly smacked off the handle by Bob, reminding her to put on her space suit first.

AgKsZo4.png

Samantha, being incredibly lazy, didn't bother to get out.

Fk2VnrY.jpg

With Science done, a hop to the nearby Highlands was made

LwRQTIU.png

Science was also done here, and off we went. Samantha had fallen asleep by this point, so Bob had to fly.

dAYmqSU.jpg

On the way, the side tanks ran out of fuel. Unfortunately, the Koffee machine was located in the side tanks, so Samantha won't be returning for the rest of this mission

9TxsNIJ.png

Soon the lander touched down in the East Crater.

3Rxq2kx.png

Since there wasn't enough fuel left to visit another biome, Bob took the craft into a polar orbit so he has something to look at while drinking in his space deck chair to get EVA Report From Space Just Above (Biome) for as many biomes as he could. This done, he used the last of the fuel to put the ship on a reentry course with Kerbin. He didn't have to get out and push, but it was pretty close.

HjaGoJV.jpg

The exploding lander generated some satisfyingly gratuitious explosions.

CS5Ggkg.png

Fortunately (although it was a really close call, too bad I didn't get the screenshot) the capsule wasn't hit by the lander module and made a safe landing. R&D got 1600 Science out of the melted hard drives.

Tune in next time for more moon madness!

This is great! All the torture and the hydrazine beer definitely reminds me of the wonderful OPTC.

Oh the writing is definitely heavily inspired by that yes.

OH MY... is this going to Urlum???

I mean... eventually

EPISODE 4 : Turning it up to 8.8

The technology discovered from the melted hard drives included nuclear engines, and so for the next mission - a return to the Mun - the Engineering team were able to design a craft with 8,800m/s of delta-V. Yes. 8800. Valentina and new scientist Shepbie were assigned to the mission, as the only remaining Kerbals able to work - Jeb being in rehab, Samantha asleep for four days and Bob having absconded with a trainer aircraft for an unknown reason.

KXlFtMH.jpg

The nearly 700t rocket sat on the pad until daytime for...reasons

Rclmk1x.jpg

Daytime having come however, it blasted off.

cmSKN6D.jpg

The rocket employs Asaparagus Staging, which Shepbie thinks sounds like a kind of soup

Mnp4hcQ.jpg

Fairing separation reveals the ROPER (Ridiculously OverPowered Exploration Rocket) spacecraft proper

HTborU7.jpg

I think this booster might be a bit overbuilt

b92eiaG.jpg

Insane Val may be, but she isn't going to turn down extra fuel. Shepbie is mildly concerned that they might hit the booster from the previous mission which is still in orbit

r6TXPtH.jpg

Val is convinced that parking orbits are for lesser pilots and went straight for the landing at the Far Side Crater

QlIEZWF.jpg

Valentina also jumped out of the ship for a quick EVA for... reasons. Mission Control has ordered that the safety team be executed for incompetence for their failiure to prevent stunts like this.

J1Q3USM.jpg

Despite Val's insistence she could land with it on, Mission Control ordered her to ditch the booster stage for landing, bringing out the dual NERVAs for the the first time

ugnIjPy.jpg

Land they did, though.

vRmAd50.jpg

Shepbie deployed the newfangled Seismometer

yCpIude.jpg

Val, for obvious reasons, was denied EVA priveliges. Shepbie didn't want to go, saying that "there's no air out there" and that he could "die". The robotic cattle prod set up in the capsule for just this reason did its job though, and out Shepbie went, although very reluctantly indeed.

5RP4o8N.jpg

That being done, it was decided to make a hop to the Polar Crater.

Tune in next time for biome hopping and Minmus madness!
