How can we disable KSP automatically setting the symmetry mode when placing parts?

Recommended Posts

I've attached fuel tanks around a central core on my ship in hexagonal, radial symmetry mode. Now I want to attach two wings to the sides of the ship in mirrored symmetry mode. What I tried was switching to mirrored mode by pressing R, and then trying to attach the wings to the sides of the fuel tanks, but the symmetry mode automatically switches to hexagonal and radial. How can I prevent the symmetry mode from automatically switching to hexagonal and radial in this case?

Basically you can't. Symmetry always inherits down and you can't break it except by not using symmetry on the new parts.

What you have to do is place your tanks 3 times in 2-symmetry mode, so the tanks you want wings on will already be in the symmetry mode you want the wings to have.

Or, place the wings twice but not in symmetry mode.

There is a mod named Split Symmetry but I've never used it. But it may help you here.

why don't you build one rocket, add parts in diametral simetry. after that just set the simetry as you wish, and click on rocket. that way rocket will be mirrored simmetry, but parts on it radial.
