KSP Loading... Preview: Breaking Ground - Robotics

Seeing the great potential for shenanigans, Bill challenged Jeb and Val to try and "fly like a bird" using new hinges currently under R&D at KSC. Never ones to back down from a challenge, they decided to take him literally. The end result - the Kerbithopter Mk0.

This extremely unsafe contraption uses 2 G-11 hinges per wing to flap like a bird, at the speed of a butterfly, around KSC in a barely controlled but highly entertaining fashion.

Hmm, another example without the GUI... is there a GUI that controls these?

This - why can't we see some examples of how this is controlled?

I'm guessing that Squad either wants it to be a surprise, or the UI isn't premier ready yet.

We are preparing some examples showing that.

This was almost the only thing left that could get my hype any higher, the air is getting thin here. \o/

Also who else saw this and immediately thought of the crazy possibilities of not just walking rovers but SPRINTING rovers? Traversing the jagged surface of a dead world in a velociraptor themed mech leaping 50m with each step has got to be the stuff of legend. Giga level protip for those unfamiliar with extremely unbalanced experimental rovers: set one control point to aim at what you need to be "up" on the craft, embed loads of reaction wheels in the craft and make sure they're set to SAS only (or you'll do involuntary backflips) then go to the location of your test drive and enable SAS in Surface mode and set it to Radial Out. Nearly impossible to topple over, makes motorbikes safe* to drive and you can even get around** on a single wheel.

* Safer than trying to land when in orbit of Mun with 400dV left.

** Not gracefully.

Thanks...just a note - in the past forum members have provided valuable feedback (and a few snarky comments) when given early previews of new interface elements. The most recent was the altimeter changes in 1.7

With some previews we might be helpful (and sadly a bit snarky) about the new one too  :)

This is going to revolutionize off-Kerbin atmospheric flight.  Think about how awesome it would be to gracefully flapping around Eve, gathering science and finding anomalies, before returning a mountaintop-parked launch vehicle.

That's never stopped them before.

That's true. But Nestor already confirmed that Squad will have example UI's later.

Personally I wouldn't show the UI until I had a good example too.
