Adjusting liklihood of contract types

Recommended Posts

This is kind of shocking, but I'm actually playing a no-revert career right now that managed to last more than 20 minutes before I got bored.  I'm still pretty early on, haven't gotten any Duna contracts yet.  I am getting a lot of rescue contracts.

I just opened Mission Control and there are 5 new rescue contracts there!  I still have 2 in progress!  Morality dictates that rescue contracts be completed immediatly, all other priorities being rescinded due to my LS mod.  I know the life support for the stranded kerbals doesn't kick in until they're in physics range, but immersion, self-set rules, etc etc.

Anywho, I would like to have some way to tone down those types of contracts.  I still want to get them, ideally I'd like to never have to hire a kerbal, but I need them..like.. 25% as much?

Any way to do this in stock with a config tweak, or are there any light mods that would otherwise leave the contracts as they are?

As far as I know, rescue contracts are just random. There is a "Contracts.cfg" in "Gamedata/Squad/Contracts" which provides a lot option to configure the stock contracts but except for the grand tour missions, the different contract types didn't get an entry to manipulate the chance for them to appear.
Well, rescue and part recovery contracts are handled in the same category "Recovery". If you set "AllowPartRecovery" to "False", every recovery contract will become a rescue contract (who wants to recover space junk anyway^^). Not exactly what you are looking for, but at least you will always get a kerbal by any recovery contract.

The contract system is supposed to be auto-tuning, isn't it?

With 1.7 I've played a stock career for the first time since ...0.90, perhaps? I've concentrated on tourism, ignored all part tests and surveys, and rescued the occasional kerbal here and there. Very quickly, this was reflected well in the contracts I was offered: mostly tourism, several rescue, little of anything else.

There's upper limits: "no more than X contracts of type Y at the same time". If your favorite is "world firsts", you're out of luck: there can be only one at a time, and the game will fill the remaining slots as best as it can.

Yes. And...

...means you're training the game to give them to you.

My suggestion: use Contract Configuraror to eliminate them until you want one.

Sadly there is no way I know of to both take all instances of a contract type and also get less of them offered.

I might be able to make this good enough.  I changed both max allowed settings to 1, and made it so it should give me kerbal-only contracts.  Once I clear out the current contracts I have going, hopefully this will adjust to where I want.

The types of contracts you get depend on your reputation, tech tree, and which SOIs you've visited.

Unlock the klaw and you will get more part recovery contracts. Boost your rep and you will get more station, base, and satellite contracts. Lower your rep and you will get more survey and part testing contracts. Visit more SOIs, and you might suddenly get a new type of exploration contract.
