[Theory] How kerbals survive without oxegen?

Have you noticed, that kerbals can survive being in space with space suit only?

Where do they get the oxygen?

Well, here's answer: they produce it by themselfes.
Yes, they just doing some photosynhesis, they're green like plants, so their skins may contain chlorophyll. Chlorophyll turns carbon dioxide into the oxygen and stuff, when lit by sun. Also, it makes things green!

Your thoughts?

They same way we do. The green colour of their skin is related to the two component reversible oxygen binding reaction in their blood. [I removed the in depth bio-chem explanation. It is available on the internet for those that want to know. -ed.] Since evolution isn't directed, but just a long series of bodges; as is evidenced by their hips.

The exclusion of life support from the stock game is just one of those we could put it in but it wouldn't be as much fun as just launching rockets things.

Same way they survive without food. Or how parts never fail, or how RTGs last forever.

- because the devs didn’t write those concerns into the game code.

[snip] Engines never fail, because they're perfectly engineered and built by robots, not kerbals. RTGs lasts forever because of kerbal tech, they can make a material, that can produce some energy, but it will never stop doing it. Also, kerbals have tech to make resources out of money. Yes, they just convert money into fuel, oxidizer, monopropellant, xenon, ore...

Kerbal gawds (aka Devs) refused from making them mortal!
Only Krash and Kraken take them. But they are not Devs, they are unexpected creatures.

The true immortals wear orange saffron clothes and reborn in a House of Person next to a mystic pool. They remember the Old Kerbin, pale-green with a red sun.

We can do this, too.

Probably they are just using oxygen recycled through there EVA pack that never fails ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They don't breath oxygen. They need it to keep their molecular integrity. Once their skin lose contact with the oxygen, their skin's cells' membrane disintegrates, exposing the cytoplasm to the cell's membranes from the rest of their bodies. That cytoplasm is highly volatile, and the subtle expansion steals heat from the adjacent cells, leading to the membrane's rupture of that cells, exposing the cytoplasm, what feedbacks into a chain reaction that ends up disintegrating the whole body into a cloud of smoke.

This is the reason they are resilient to impacts. As long the impact does not compress the skin against something to the point all the oxygen is expeled, they're good.

The Forces of Nature that somehow reintegrates them on the KSP's Astronaut Complex after some hours are yet to be explained.  It's believed to be related to a phenomena called "Game Option" - but nobody is really sure about what such thing really is. Some hypothesis about Krakens and Users were in vogue for some time, but currently the Theory of Configurabilty is the most accepted explanation for the phenomena, besides all the equations failing miserably at the Event Horizon - the Frontier of the Artificial Reality where all the keystrokes and mouse clicks are lost and nothing more exists beyound NaNs and INFs through infinite divisions by zero.

Good theory!

Comments in no particular order.

  1. Photosynthesis splits water into oxygen and hydrogen, so photosynthesising kerbals would need a supply of water. Carbon fixation is a separate biochemical process.
  2. Kerbals don't have enough skin area to make photosynthesis worthwhile anyway.
  3.  This theory is interesting but has already appeared on quite a few threads.
  4.  Terran lizards have green skin. They don't photosynthesise - they just have green skin.

To stop them surviving without oxygen, the caring and generous modders have created a bunch of mods making Kerbals die without supplies.

With devious cynicism, they call it "Life Support" mods.

This, pointless to speculate about gameplay mechanics. Why don't RTG loose performance over time? How can reaction wheels spin up forever? Why do kerbals refuel their eva fuel without draining any resources ?
its all done to simplify the game both to develop and for players to not get too much to handle.
I always use life support.

It's pointless to play a game at first place. We do play games for fun. We do speculate about the game for more fun. :D

There are mods which fix these disadvantages.

They spend ElectricCharge, so they don't.
