Can we import/convert KSP1 crafts to KSP2?

I know it say "saves" are not compatible. What about crafts?

I mean it's just a text files that state what part connect to which part by how many distance...

Maybe they have now another format, and very likely a different set of "Module..."s.
Maybe model/texture are now declared in other way.

So, say, the name and the mass stay same, but that's isn't "compatible".

I too would love to hear from a developer on this issue. It would be a real shame to lose all those hours spent building.

Current saves are easy to read/convert as text files. I'd wait to see if modders figure out parts closely matching the KSP1 versions, then offer a file/save converter. Wait and see.

Realistically I think the best we can hope for is "yes but with a mod." I.e., a mod that adds in KSP 1 part equivalents and converts craft save files.

Since they are breaking back compatibility, I expect this applies to parts as well, i.e. I don't expect there will be 1:1 analogues for all parts, which means that it won't be possible to convert craft using stock parts only either.

Since everything is modular, I would be shocked if we wouldn’t be able to hack up a converter to do the job once the new format is made available. Whether said crafts would be useable with whatever new systems are used is a whole ‘nother issue, and we’ll have to wait and see.

KSP craft files use plaintext JSON instead of a binary format, so if KSP2 uses that as well then it'll be pretty easy to convert them
