The MK1 challenge

Recommended Posts

The ksc was in the midst of a terrible fuel crisis.

This meant that the only single tank they had was the MK1!

CHALLENGE- go as far as you can with one MK1 liquid fuel, not rocket fuel tank!

The stock, no dlc liquid fuel tank

RULES- NO mods. ONLY stock engines, etc

The only mods that are allowed are visual mods

Yes, that means stock physics

NO solar panels and fuel cells won't work probably since there isn't oxidizer

For v.1.7 upwards

I haven't figured out how to do rewards, will update

What about batteries?  Electric motors?  Solar panels?

I think it would be in the spirit of the challenge to only use the fuel tank for propulsion. I'm not sure if fuel cells can run on liquid fuel only.

Edit: they cant. But you could use a small jet engine as a generator.

As its worded, they can be used.  I asked the question to give @burn boi a.chance to tighten up the rules to avoid anybody taking advantage of a perceived loophole

Another question: Does the vessel have to be manned?

Using a detachable jet, I brought a Nuke+Tank+Cockpit into LKO with ~1200m/s left. I guess that's enough for Eve or Duna. If gravity assists are OK, how much can you get from a single Eve flyby?

Well, considering that in a previous thread I circumnavigated Kerbin in a Juno-powered plane that burned about 400 fuel, this should be more than doable.  I'd simply resubmit that old flight, but the plane actually held 600 fuel (using a quartet of Mk 0 fuselages surface-mounted to a Mk.1 Divertless Supersonic Intake.)  Still, said plane also carried a passenger cabin.  I'll have to build to the specifications of this thread.
