something wrong with relays

hi there

i've this issue i cannot figure out:

i have this craft orbiting duna, made of a "carrier" and a "lander".

the "carrier" has a HG-55 antenna, the "lander" an HG-5 and a commutron 16 (to be used during landing).

the craft is in circular orbit at 55km so ready for deploying the lander.

as soon as i decouple the lander, it loses connection.

the "carrier" is still connected to the network, but the lander has no signal.. at 2meters distance from the carrier..

 

in map view all the ships are connected, and if i display the vessel connection they look connected also after decoupling but still, the lander does not get signal..

 

what am i doing wrong?

The HG-55 is not a relay antenna.  The HG-5 is, but it's not going to reach Kerbin from Duna.

You're showing a connection between the lander and carrier because of the HG-5 on the lander, but it's only between those two.  The signal from Kerbin you're getting on the carrier with the HG-55 cannot be relayed back to the lander, and vice versa.

Only the RA-2 RA-15, RA-100 and HG-5 antennas are relays.  I think you're going to want a RA-15 or RA-100 for the carrier.

i have to relaunch the entire thing with a new design :|

Send a small satellite with only a powerful-enough relay antenna to reach Kerbin, a probe core, and a sufficient power source. It can then serve the lander, and all your craft already there. You don’t need to fly the whole thing there again.

This. And as a bonus, now you'll have a relay satellite at Duna.

In fact you can probably send a half dozen of them and set up a network for a fraction of the cost of re-sending your original mission.

Side note - you COULD operate the lander as desired if you have one of the command pods with the "remote control" ability, and the requisite pilot count, in the "carrier" vessel.  That lets you bypass the need to get the signal back to Kerbin.

You still need a relay antenna on said command pod.

Although in that instance, the HG-5 would be enough.
