Verifying expansions stuck on 1.8

Greetings all. :confused:

 

After getting a copy of a reply to this problem of which I also

had, The player had pointed out that there was a good chance that

MechJeb2 ( even the 1.8 version ) was stopping the game from starting?

I removed MechJeb2 using the CKAN which had installed it for me!

 

And then restarted the game and that did it, my game not only started Ok

But also loaded fast and running fine without MechJeb2.

 

He also said, possibly that fire spitter mod could stop the game loading?

But I have that in still along with the other mods it uses like fire spitter core

neither of these stops the game working!

In fact I have now 95 mods installed by CKAN and have no problems

with them?

So until the mod maker who did MechJeb2 sorts out the 1.8 mod so it works

your best bet is to remove it and the game will run.

It is a shame the 1.8 MechJeb2 is the problem, As I used that one allot

for flights and landings and transfers etc.

Let's hope it will be fixed?

No, what is a shame is that FireSpitter was so messed up that it crashed any mod that do a loaded class scan. MechJeb is not the problem here and I am getting quite tired of explaining it.

I just re-installed MechJeb2 by CKAN

just to see if the mod works or the game does not?

Much to my surprise it now seems to work Ok Both the MechJeb2

and the firespitter work and the game seems more settled.

 

I noticed that the game version has changed to 1.8.1 now.

So maybe this was a small updating?

Either way all seems to be now working!  I at last can play the game. ;)

Lovely Graphics for the planet Kerbin just as I read would be so!

I have now a 103 mods for ksp 1.8.1 installed by CKAN.

Not seen any problems now with the mods ( thank heck :wink:

So I am not sure why VinnieboJ is having the problems with just 4?

Maybe it is a update issue!  I know I had problems even getting the new

1.8.0 game to start up,  It was fixed when the 1.8.1 update fix happened.

Now 103 mod in there including MechJeb2 and Firespitter Both where

causing the game not to run before the update happened!

I had to get CKAN to remove MechJeb2 then the game worked Ok.

Later on ( about a week ) I tried the MechJeb2 re-installed by CKAN

and it put it back in along with Firespitter which I had already removed.

The game run fine then and that's when I seen the 1.8.1 version on the menu screen?

So there's a fault with one of those 4 mods? 

In your place I would just remove one mod and see if the game work Ok? 

If not re-install that mod and take another of them out and so on until it worked?

If doing this did no good and it was still not working re-install them using CKAN which may install updated ones like mine did or it will install a needed patch to make it run?

Or wait and see if a new patch came along CKAN can see these and install them.

 

I wish you lots of luck... hang in there and just check CKAN every day like I did .

I have removed the science and apparently also had x science mod installed. Haven't been able to get the game running yet though. And i use the twitch thing to keep track of the mods. I used to just manually install them from Forge and the like. But via twitch it's easier to keep track of updates made to the mods. I will try to run the game again tomorrow and see what is what.

So yesterday I decided to play some KSP  and slowly add a few mods at the time, including mechjeb, and i've had no issues with booting up the game. Not sure what made it so i don't get stuck on the loading screen any more though.

All that matters is your gaming again!  

I had tons of trouble too before just as you had.

Pleased your game has done what mine did, sorted out the stuck menu.

Now best use CKAN only to install the new mods, That's what I am doing?

That way you can see them going in Ok and get updates too.

I'm also happy that i can play the game again, with some additional mods installed. And via the Twitch app i can get updates to the mods i have installed, so I don;t need CKAN i think. 

however i seem to have some difficulty in getting some science equipment to the mun. reliant and swivel engine and the boosters are apparently not enough to get the payload to the mun.

mostly because i want to return a science container with all the science stored. need them full science bits! 

 

not sure if it is the stock science tree, but i have the one size bigger (than the reliant and swivel engines) fuel tanks, but not the engines to match.... I know there are mods that add more engines, but i don't want too much mods to be running, as my laptop is a bit slow as it is... well back to the drawing board and see what i can do.

So, the game is freezing again on the loading screen. This time somewhere around one of the expansion parts, usually some moon banner. Sometimes it freezes on fail/failed01 or so, and sometimes on true/true01 or so.

Only when i remove the mods i have installed will the game run. And i don't even have that much mods installed. Just Tarsier, DM Orbit Magic and a redux of stockalike stationparts. 

And I feel like the stock parts that come with the game are not enough to run a science game. I'm missing a few in between engines, and the techtree needs an overhaul. 

I hope with the next patch i can use mods again.

There are some findings on the thread below. TL;DR : MechJeb2, Module Manager at all are just the Screaming Victims of a problem we were not aware off, and now I think we are, and then we can work around it.

I think I have found a solution to my problems. They seen to stem from the making history expansion, something in there is not playing nice when mods are installed. I'll miss the parts it came with. But at least i can use my mods and play the game!

You can keep the parts, and delete only the kspexpansion file. I don't know how the additional suits will behave.

Well, I got curious. I will fire some tests and then come back.

Delete:

  • GameData/SquadExpansion/MakingHistory/makinghistory.kspexpansion
    • This disables the MH in game features
  • GameData/SquadExpansion/MakingHistory/AssetBundles
    • To save some space if you are using a SSD. Otherwise, you can keep this there

And Presto - Making History parts without Making History.

Of course, make a backup of the whole thing so you can restore ir when desired.

After login and start the main menu at KSP, when I do:

grep -i exception KSP.log | grep -v INFO
[EXC 23:54:03.024] IndexOutOfRangeException: Index was outside the bounds of the array.
[ERR 23:54:11.018] Module ModuleEnginesWarp threw during OnLoad: System.ArgumentException: Requested value 'Nozzle' was not found.

Also exceptions in 1.7.3 that persist in 1.8.1 nothing new.
