Jeb's Goblin Glider

I was messing around trying to make a hang-glider, but it turns out that EVA kerbals have crappy grip strength, so I came up with this instead:

The main issue is that Kerbals will slide off of the ladder fairly easily. They are not actually part of the craft so have their own momentum and will go zipping offthe ends of the ladder in even fairly low speed maneuvers. I probably could get it to work with the kerbal under the wings, but I really disliked that I couldn't get him facing the right way.

Attach a ladder to a large parachute, add a couple of bits to hold the kerbal in place, activate the parachute and detatch it from a re-entering craft. It will go from space to landing and the kerbal will survive, and you can even jump off just before it hits the ground.

It's Jebediäa of the Valley of the Wind!

...there's something very odd about the aerodynamics here; you're to be gaining height with no engine. I know that KSP's aerodynamics model is pretty approximate --- what's happening?
