Funny, I wanted to suggest the same. It would make uncontrolled descent "easily" programmable.

 

For instance, on "Loss of Signal", I'd like certain antennas to unfold. (kind of a safe mode switch that I could set up)

On "Loss of Energy", certain solar panels or other parts.

On "Touchdown", certain decouplers etc.

It would be lovely if the pressure sensor or temperature gauges could somehow be used in conjunction with a KAL action group in "stock"

Or use Kerbalism, which also allows activating things when certain conditions occur.  

(There is also KOS, but that is probably overkill).
