Depends on what you are using it for. Are the batteries dead and you are stuck in a way where you can't recharge them? Are the Science- y bits broken? Is it a waste of time to gather more science because the bonuses have worn off? More context is needed. If you believe you can still get lots of science, than don't. If it has become useless and cannot serve it's function any longer, murder it.

If you have decided to murder it, don't be boring and simply terminate it. Take some massive parts, build a space nuke, and bombard it from orbit. Or throw it off a cliff. Or land a new rover on top of it. If you decide to go through with it, we need a video.

Hibernate mode and forget about it.  I use those old rovers/probes for the occasional "gather science from surface/space around x" contracts.  Pick up the contract, hop on the old rover, grab a temperature reading for 0 science, transmit, complete contract.  Quick $.
