I have tried a few times to beat the new speed record. I couldn't actually screenshot a speed over 729.0 so far.

OFFICIAL ENTRY: Top speed of 731.3 m/s.

Reclaiming the top speed record with a new vehicle, the Triplebeak:

Off the end of the runway at 300 m/s.

Supersonic climb. Main intake is now closed. Precooler only.


Near peak altitude:


731.3 m/s. Top speed.


Hard turn out of the dive.


Coming in for a splash-down. This will not be an easy landing. It needs to hit at precisely the right descent rate, AOA and speed.


The vehicle nearly flips over forward. If it flips, it may break the intake and invalidate the run.


Finally slowed to a halt.

I also managed this, but I messed up the landing later on so I don't think it counts. But the point is, it's still a good few m/s away from its limits.

Hmm... wait.... engines don't need to be on a thing to propel the thing.....

80 engines with 20 MN of static thrust....







Pilot reached 4176 m/s. Does it count? I have no idea. But it's cool either way.

When you disable drag and max temperature.... Moho near-intercept trajectory!

You know, I could go bigger than that. How many goliaths would it take to crash my game if I cheat engine to 1% speed or something? I might even be able to put some very tough kerbal box into space.

Okay. The competition has been fiercer than expected. I'm on about design number 5 and who knows how many variations.  I have not beat the best of you, but I did manage to land on the ground. I hit 716.9 for a fraction of a second. On level it will do about 705ish.

 

My altitude attempt got me to 28,000 but I crashed that landing.  A previous plane nearly made it to the Dessert Airfield but exploded, so I will have to give that another go.
