Gantry rails

I have been making a vehicle transporter, but i need a gantry rail that can attach radiallyto move a docking port. The pistons are good and all, but after a certain distance they become posessed by the noodle syndrome.thanks for your time.

The I-beams make nice rails.  You need to enable the 'same-vessel interaction' option for the rails, and the parts that slide along the rail.  EAS-4 struts are good for building trusses to make a nice frame for the rails.

Edit:  Oh, you meant to suggest that KSP add a new part. Good suggestion.
