KSP Loading... Preview: Drain Valve

Recommended Posts

The 1.9 release will include this small but useful feature. The FTE - 1 Drain valve allows you to release resources during the flight! Either from a tank or the whole vessel.

Neat. I honestly can’t think of a particular use case for this though, other than perhaps submarine type applications.

For normal rockets you can dump excess ore already, and if you have too much fuel, wouldn’t it be easier to just burn the engines until you burn away the fuel?

Are those legs new or are the BG content that escaped my notice?

Cool!

Does venting the fuel produce a small amount of thrust? If so, we can do propulsive vents :D

This is fantastic for stuff like space shuttles, which are designed to have an ideal CoL/CoM balance on re-entry.  There are valves like this in the Smart Parts mod.  I use them quite frequently.

I like the look of this. I assume it doesn't only have the option to vent LFO. Does it detect the contents of the tank and drain only those resources? Does it obey cross-feed rules when draining from vessel? I'm looking forward to the opportunity to use it and figure out how it works. If there is one small piece of feedback I might be allowed to give, though, it might be good to include a a texture variant that offers an alternative to the black and yellow caution tape. The caution tape has been a component of a lot of the stock part's aesthetics for a long time, but I've noticed its generally absent from the revamped parts. I don't particularly dislike the caution tape, but it just seems like having the option whether or not to include it might be nice. Its a very minor quibble about a minute detail that most people will probably never notice, but I just felt maybe it was worth saying aloud.

Finally! Now just a couple more features (hoses, 2.5m lf-only tanks for nuclear) and all my parts-wise complaints will be fixed!

That's a really smart part, right there. Nice and handy to have in the stock game! :D Great little QoL addition.

Weird request, but could it be controllable with the KAL?

Nice feature that's bound to come in handy at times. I've found myself in that situation occasionally.

Only.... is it really necessary to bind it to a specific part?

Yesss, a new part and function. Thanks Squad!

Now we can purge that pesky fuel if needed.

I see a big blank nothing in the OP.

Strange. Me as well, on both my smart phone AND on my desktop, with different browsers.

Same here. But looking at the source of the page I could find a link to a video on facebook.

May I recommend to @St4rdust that facebook is not the best choice as a video hosting provider?

@DunaManiac @AHHans

Seems to work fine for me here:

Seems okay.  Its certainly a niche functionality that is fantastic to have when you need it.

The video doesn't show, are there any color variants, dark, orange, and white?

@linuxgurugamer well, another mod retiring? *chuckle*

No, but I'll probably remove the functionality of this from at least 2 mods that I can think of without trying.  Will depend on how it works

Nice but I have a question: will it replace the ore tanks ability to dump ore?

I doubt it for backwards compatibility if nothing else, but it would make sense to.

The most important question is: can you light vented fuel on fire? :D
