Attached parachute to asteroids

I saw in the "what did you do in ksp today" thread people talking about attaching a parachute to an asteroid to land it on Kerbin. My question is, how do you attach it? I thought you were only able to do stuff like that in the VAB. Is there a mod for stuff like that?

You can do it in stock KSP. You use a part called an "Advanced Grabbing Unit" -- that we also call Klaws. Plus some decouplers.

Have no picture in flight but you should get an idea how to:

Note that another probe was in front too.
If you dont have the BG DLC try using an inflatable 10m heat shield instead of smaller ones with hinges.
