Two Space Programs

I would really love for there to be a mod that added another space program to the game with it's own tech tree (it can be a copy, just one that doesn't share science with the other) that you could switch too and from and act out a space race.

you could give both sides their own colors and space suit styles. Their own unique rocket design parameters!

just, you know, for people who like to role play in their game or maybe for Let's players to do some tag out games!

Thing is I really know NOTHING about the challenges of modding KSP, so I'm asking, how hard would it be to make a mod like this?
