Not to mention that if you build a perfect replica of the launcher it'll get you to Jool before you need to pop the fairing.

It doesnt need to be 100% perfect in all aspects but, i think it should be far better than the 30%ish accurate depiction visually in that video. I dont know about you but the lack of visual fidelity is what concerns me. Thats my concern. The performance dv and isp wise can be ksp scale but please can we have visual fidelity and faithfulness to the real thing? Recall the SLS stuff? Irl the sls will out perform saturn v but in ksp its performance is on par with ksp scale. 
 

i think its not asking too much for that kinda thing here. My opinion ofc.

I don’t mind the proportions. Like <insert user name I forgot sorry> said, KSP is more like a LEGO set. Things like BDB are diy model kits.  So first off:

I know I said all that but Kickbacks are too much. PLEASE.

DECALS FINALLY. They added a tab for them in the early versions of KSP but never put anything inside.

ur not missing much, it’s just a pan around of cool decals spammed onto an okay rocket. I want (frickwrongfont) Rosetta. COMRTS!1!!1!2!1!!2!1!1!1!!1!1!!1!!!!!!!!1!  Again, doesn’t have to be a bunch of parts to be attached to certain other parts and ONLY OTHER PARTS. to make a replica. Just, I want Rosetta and the cute lil lander.

The rocket looks like a stock setup. Kickback boosters, mainsail engine. Are we getting placable decals? I've been hoping for that to replicate my NASA missions more faithfully. Other than that I don't see any new stuff on this clip.

We don’t need it. Again: MH is the LEGO kit. It has instructions, but you can always slap it into a multicolored LEGO City.

So... the only new part I see is that cool rounded faring (nice I like it). I don’t mind. There’s probably an ESA BDB out there. What’s the problem?

Decals are a fantastic thing to have!

That being said, though the compression it looks to me like the rest is just stock parts, maybe with a reskin, which is a little less than exciting. I’m all for more cosmetic options, but I do hope that’s not all there is here.

So, part reskins... Ok, no more new parts, and none of my craft will be obsolete because some new part could improve it... coo

Show us the comets and the celestial body revamps.

If its out in July, and we still need Eeloo, Jool(sort of has been shown?), Laythe, Tylo, Vall, Bop, and Pol reskinned.

Will we get them all in the next update? Or just a couple?

I'd really like to see the water improved like scatterer does.

The water just looks bad compared to the nice terrain now

As you all know, it's already the 07th of June and we have only 1 KSP loading news anouncement. I really want to see something more @SQUAD

I would also like to see something realistic. Like for the pipes at the very least! Please! And also, I hope that the ruckus has not effected the development of KSP 1 too. That would look horrific.

Cool! Thanks for the updates. Good to see KSP is still getting updates. I hadn't expected much more development with KSP2 announced.
I too like lots of people on here have made an Arianne out of existing parts before. (my recentish attempt was when the Aussie satellite Sky Muster was launched).
More options is always handy tho!

Hey all.

We've made some updates to the Ariane 5 since that screenshot was taken.   I wanted to share them, and also explain how certain choices were made.

First - we choose the 2.5m size because we didn't want to make the Bepi/Rosetta spacecraft too small relative to this craft and had in mind what sizes we wanted for those.  Also, 2:1 on the diameter for the real craft vs the KSP version lines up well with some of our other Kerbalized craft.  For instance, the Acapello, our Saturn V-like craft, is a 5m diameter core while the real one is a 10.1m core.

With that chosen, the SRBs we'd use was pretty obvious, so we chosen the Kickbacks for those - though yes, they're slimmer than the real Ariane 5's SRBs in relation, they'd have to be 1.4m to match perfectly - but we  don't want to create odd-diameter parts.  And as you already noted, we had updated the mainsail to be more like a Vulcain, both as a cool visual update and with this in mind - who doesn't like dual exhaust pipes after all?

That said, we agree the fairing was too round and the 2nd's stage too long, those have both been adjusted.   We aren't trying to make perfect replicas of real life craft, everything going into the game is 'Kerbalized' to some degree, but I think this new version is a good balance.   Hope you like it.

Btw, If you DO want more perfect replicas of real life craft though - Squad is a big fan of the mods that implement them and I would strongly recommend you check the modding scene out, I don't feel like we're in competition with modders on this front, we just have different focuses.

@Maxsimal Is the Kickback actually getting a full revamp in this update, or is it just getting a new variant? The new variant minus the decals looks like it would be a great makeover for the booster, and it would be really odd if the better-looking version with the decals was just a variant added to the (rubbish-looking) existing part.

I think this is a little bit weird, since we've been using ~0.625 * IRL scale as a standard in part-modding for nearly a decade now - since the standard  part sizes are divided by 0.625m this often works out much cleaner.

I.E. Apollo service module 4m IRL = 2.5m, the standard size which it is in game as the Mk1-3 pod.

For example,  your Ariane boosters at 3m diamter would work out to 1.875m in this scale - a standard size.

Kind of confused why 2:1 is the "canological" way of doing it here?

(Also @Maxsimal, don't get me wrong, this is a nice update :) )

BDB parts aren't as single use as people past-me included claim them to be. MH and BDB both have a majority of parts usable for whatever. And both have dome specialised parts that aren't really that lego-able

I thought of that too. I can’t multiply but I thought about 1.875 boosters. Like... wouldn’t that be fine...?
