Stock Flying interplanetary Artillery

[Story time]

I tried to make a stock artillery that could hit the island airfield near the space center... I "kinda" went overboard on this and accidentally made it powerful enough to hit Moho when aimed/alligned properly hehe. In this video, I'm shooting for the Mun, which was pretty challenging as well.

[Some numbers]
The cannon weighs approximately 170 tonnes
Thrust source: 33 vector engines
Part count: 93
The maximum velocity of the projectile is 5100 m/s
Time for projectile to reach its target: approximately 60 minutes

Here is a 24 second clip of the launch. :)

You were aiming for the island airfield and hit Moho?

haha, something like that. I was playing around with engine stacks and found out how easy it was to shoot something fast.  so i figured I could shoot for the mun instead.

Off course I then  hit a wall... a wall named drag.. it seems that drag is a big issue when you launch an aerodynamic projectile at >5200 m/s at sea level. By turning the artilly into a helicopter I could avoid the soup-o-sphere and shoot much further.

Thanks for the comments @Vanamonde and @Kerballing (Got Dunked On). :)

Maybe I will try to hit Duna on a next mission... I don't know.. I think it would be better to do this in orbit though..
