I had this experience before with the making history parts since every tie I try to hot stage, the engine heats up the fuel tank below before I can even decouple the stage below. I have tried with a heat shield and it doesn't work. Maybe make the soyuz-style 1.8 decoupler behave like a powerful heat shield?

Why are you trying to light an engine before decoupling the previous stage?

Irl this happens a lot. Soyuz, Proton, Titan, N1, probably more all do it. When hot-staging you don't need ullage motors to settle the fuel in the tanks. This however is not modeled in ksp without mods, but it might be an aesthetic you want to go for.

I wonder if you could set a time delay on individual parts in the staging sequence. So you could stage once, then automatically eject an interstage fairing, decouple the spent stage and then fire the engines. Or in whatever order you wanted.
