As others have already said, it varies between installs. I have a fully stock install for various testing, my main (career) install with ~30 mods, and everything in between.

In terms of what types of mods I use, it's mostly gameplay mods, with a couple of part mods - though only part mods I deem essential - Kerbal Reusability Expansion, Missing History and SCANsat, to name a few. I don't use any visual mods (not even Restock, I prefer the stock art style) as my computer is graphically challenged.

I run a moderately modded game, with 20ish mods? It's split between:

* AVP (and everything that goes with it, like Scatterer, EVE, DOE, etc.)

* OPM, because Jool isn't enough.

* Tool mods, like MechJeb and KAC.

* And finally part mods. I have the entire NearFuture set plus KerbalAtomics (gotta love Neartea) plus some extra stockalike station parts and a few other things.

I'm considering getting KAS and KIS, just to give EVAs some purpose. I might also get FTL Drive Continued so I can easily flick around the system once I've established myself.

I have three at least partially active save games and each has its own set of mods: an old 1.7.3 heavily modded version with a lot of manually added stuff and some that I added later with CKAN; a 1.8.1 JNSQ version with over a hundred mods by CKAN plus some extras added manually; and a 1.9.1 version that I’ve added as few parts to as possible (just Restock+ and Kerbalism’s parts) but included Kerbalism for a first try at life support and a whole lot of mods to make it look pretty- Spectra, TU/Magpie Mods (so shiny!), EVE/scatterer etc.- and others like MechJeb, KAC and Strategia.

Varies due to my computer not powerful enough to run KSP with a truckload of mods. Most of them is just parts mod since I'm more interested in building stuff than exploring

Not counting Dependencies like B9PartSwitch or CommunityResourcePack, I have 17 Mods.

7 Part Mods: CryoEngines, KW Rocketry, Stockalike Mining Expansion, Near Future Solar, NF Spacecraft, NF Exploration, Stockalike Station Parts Expansion

8 Gameplay Mods: [x] Science!, CapCom, Kerbal Engineer, KSP Rescue Pod Fix, Docking Port Alignment Indicator, Final Frontier, Kerbal Alarm Clock, and USI Life Support

And Texture Replacer which I use Exclusively for Enby Kerbals

A. Lot. Like 210. I can give a better list, but it's basically:

Jnsq, GPP secondary, gep, extrasolar, gu, and owr (all rescaled to match jnsq)

mechjeb, ker, lots of other qol stuff

EVE, restock

a bunch of restockalike parts like knes and bdb

everything nertea

some not-restockalike parts like stockish orion

unkerballed start, kct, bureacracy, oh scrap, reserch bodies

contract configurator and basically every contract pack

modified with some of my own code kerbal health, tacls

mks, rational resources, kis/kas

And that's only what I can remember away from my gamedata :). It's like 15 gb in total!

95 "mods" (as defined by CKAN, some are just MM patches), plus ~30 assorted MM patches of my own and 3 horribly out-of-date mods I fixed lightly buggerised myself. A bit of everything.

92 as of right now.

Mostly gameplay and visual, and part packs like stockalike station expansion, near future solar, etc. Couple of construction mods like simple construction, extraplanetary launchpads. And @Misguided_Kerbal‘s Valor planet pack. Seriously, download that mod. It’s really great!

I’m currently playing completely vanilla, but I usually fall into the “lightly modded” category.

Visual: None (I would love to use them but my computer’s graphics card sucks)

Parts: KIS, KAS

Gameplay: OPM, Better Timewarp, Sigma Dimensions

I’ve never really been that into heavily modding my game for two reasons:

1. Having a lot installed kind of feels unnecessary in my opinion

2. The game takes forever to load when heavily modded and crashes are more common, as well as framerates are often lower. I’d rather have good performance than additional content that I may or may not use depending on the mission.

I have only one texture mod: Restock.

The base game is great on its own, and in my opinion, adding dozens of mods doesn't make it better.  The only things lacking are high quality part textures and atmospheric enhancements (EVE, scatterer).  But my computer is somewhat limited on RAM, so I only have Restock for parts and take framerate over graphics for EVE and scatterer.

I have 36 mods total, including dependencies:

ABCORS - This one is a lifesaver and probably my favorite mod ever next to KER, when you hover your mouse over the orbit it tells you the altitude and velocity

Better Time Warp

DMagic Orbital Science

Easy Vessel Switch

EVE

Raster Prop Monitor

Kerbal Alarm Clock

KER

KIS

MarkIV

MechJeb2

Near Future Tech - all 7 of them

Planetary Base Inc

ScanSat

Scatterer

Spectra - Probably the coolest visual mod out there, it is less RAM intensive but looks super cool

Station Parts Expansion Redux

Tarsier Space Tech

Texture Replacer

Who am I

Mod dependencies:

Spoiler

ASET

B9 part switch

Click through Blocker

Community Category Kit

Community Resource Pack

Deployable Engines

Dynamic Battery Storage

Near Future props

Toolbar Controller

Zero mini AVC

I really like part mods and download plugins all the time, but then delete them soon after:D

These are the ones that survive the purges.

Once I finish my Science mode play through and start a Career save, this list is going to be about 100 mods long because of contract mods.

Kerbal Alarm Clock - why this isn't stock is beyond me

MechJeb - for times when I have done something a dozen times already

Docking Port Alignment Indicator - not entirely sure why but its nice

Chatterer - just because

no parts mods as yet

I have like 6-7 mods.

My computer has low ram (almost 100% used while playing this game) so I cannot have much mods or any kind of visual mod.

Iirc the only ones I have are: KIS, KAS, Texture Replacer (I don't consider this one a visual mod tbh, I only use it for the suits and visors), SCANsat and I forgot the other ones
